Encased in carbonite!

Re: Encased in carbonite!
It looks like you could have sawed off more...but the picture could be misleading because these engines are so small.
I was flat shocked holding a .049 teedee next to a stunt tanked reedie. The teedee is tiny, but really it is comparing the tank to a lack of tank in that case.

Luckily, Bernie sells replacement parts. I'll be watching this.dinsdale wrote:Acetone won't have any ill effect at all on the metal. It'll probably eat any plastic bits though, and might effect any "O" rings.

Re: Encased in carbonite!
The only replacement parts might just be a carb body of which I have a couple of spares. The entire bottom of the crankcase is exposed and 3/4 of the venturi. Just one glob stuck around the cylinder yet.
I changed the acetone as the old stuff looked like ghostbusters slime!

Spotless. None of the resin was in the crankcase.

For some reason I can't see the whole picture. Just the top half. I assume it looks good judging by the comments. Let's hope it runs well! Good job Jason.

Re: Encased in carbonite!
Tried for an hour tonight to get this engine to run. Changed glow head, NVA and the fuel. Would pop and run backwards as if it was flooded. It wasn't flooded. I took it totally apart tonight and looking at the crank the crank pin is on the wrong side of the intake port. The carbonite engine has a right hand crank (clockwise) installed! No wonder it always wanted to run backwards. I don't have any reverse pitch props so I will swap out the crank and retry tomorrow.

Reverse rotation engines are great for keeping the lines tight. I have a couple Wiley .36 carrier engines like that.

Re: Encased in carbonite!
Pair it up with a regular rotation and go RC twin!

What are the odds of that? I have never seen one of those funny cranks. I guess when you have a billion engines you are bound to run across a few.

I don't think Cox made a billion engines. I do have my fair share though.Cribbs74 wrote:What are the odds of that? I have never seen one of those funny cranks. I guess when you have a billion engines you are bound to run across a few.
The spare crank I have is the later thicker crank web version for the later engines and this is an early crankcase.....

Re: Encased in carbonite!
Flip a standard prop around and make it a pusher
Randy's F-15 (sister plane to his Mig that Jeremy converted to electric) is set up like that with a RR-TD.
I may have a crank, I'll look tonight.

I have several pusher props if needed. I have no use for them.

It runs and the right way now. Too dark for a tach and the sound cut out on the phone for some reason.
