I hit a bug.
I hit a bug.
I forgot to mention this yesterday. I was flying along and hit what I assume was a large Dragonfly. The funny thing it wasn't with the plane it was with the lines. I actually felt it hit through the handle and you could feel the extra drag on the lines until the carcass fell away. It was a first for me, has anyone else experienced this?

Re: I hit a bug.
I definitely have.
Dragonflies (and May Flies(June Bugs)) breed in my little pond.
They are curious, enter the house and fly around, and pose for their pictures being taken.

No but it's better than having a passing dog become entangled in your flying lines. Poor dog became terrified!

Reminds me of a little kid running in and out of the camera view. Kind of like "Hey look at me!"
Yeah, the reason I asked is because, it's an odd thing to happen and it had such a profound effect on the flight.

Yes that would be much worse. Surely more damage would ensue.SuperDave wrote:Ron:

Yeah, Wayne hit a dragon fly with the lines last week. I didn't see it happen, but it must've gotten his attention because after he landed he asked me if I saw it.

Re: I hit a bug.
During a nearly-too-late-to-fly dusk session down at the airport, I had two Nighthawks dive into my circle and orbit above me at really close quarters. With swept, pointed wings and a cool racing stripe close to their wingtips, these guys aren't really "hawks"...they feed mostly on insects...but have tons of speed and can turn with any little falcon around. I get buzzed by them on a regular basis out on the ramp, usually around sunset, and love watching their close-proximitry flying out over the beans.
These two had the good manners to at least fly counter clock-wise with the lines as I yelled at them to get the hell away. They circled closely overhead, perhaps feeding on the cloud of mosquitoes I'd generated. I was just getting into the Shark with some serious balancing and trimming efforts, and figured I was now about to lose it in a tangle with one of the suckers.
After about three laps of yelling and waving, they apparently got bored and headed out across the field. During the assault, my half-second glimpses of Patrick had him staring blankly (a fairly constant condition) at my battle with the Nighthawks, never thinking to join in the chorus of hoots to clear my flight circle.
I got the Shark back on the ground and retreated with my plane intact, but figure it's just a matter of time before we do battle again.

I have Nighthawks down here to, I can hear em before I see em. They make a cool shooshing sound when they pull out of the dive close to the ground.
Seen em dive on other birds and people, cool bird.

In my previously mentioned "dog entangled in the lines" incident, the poor dog became so terrified that it "pooped" in the flying circle.
Guess who had to clean it up?

I hit two pigeons with a combat plane, predictable results.

I suppose as long as I don't hit a person then I'll be fine!

I hit a tree (a little one). It decided to try flying and took my plane for a couple laps.
