Cox Engine of The Month
Purple Plane Factory

Purple Plane Factory
I have been building and flying, and have not spent a bunch of time on the computer. The weather has been getting colder, so now, its time to play Show and Tell. If the pictures stick, you'll see a few planes that I built from plans: a 1954 Bob Palmer POW WOW, a 1963 Bob Gialdini Olympic VI, and a Magician by Jim Silhavey, that I modified a little, to change the looks, but hopefully not the flying qualities. My entry for the 1/2A Scale Racer still needs paint-but it will not be purple, since it is a model of an actual plane that I used to work on. keep an eye peeled for it! Here goes:

They all look superb Doug!
The magician came out very well, if I had to pick a favorite it would be the Pow Wow.
Good Job!!

Re: Purple Plane Factory
All planes are powered by FOX .35s. The exception is the Olympic: it has an O.S. .40 FP on the nose. I experiment with props... from 9x6 to 11x6. I even have a few 10x6 EW props to use. These are all on 60' lines, too. I'm striving for a slow, power-all-the-way pattern in the circle. The Lew engine seems to be the best one for that, so far! It's great!
Thanks Guys!
I'm curious...What is it about the Pow Wow that you guys lean toward it? I have a lot of fun building and flying, and I choose the planes to build on what I am trying to achieve in the circle. I have lots of practicing to do, before I am of contest caliber, and I jump around to so many airplanes that I seem to not get much real progress made - except having FUN! There are alot of great people in town to fly with, and they are a great help in every way! I'll keep building and flying!

I just like the lines, classic! fat wing and short coupled. It just looks good to me.
The more I look at the Olympic the better I like it too!

Re: Purple Plane Factory
"Best" is hard to pick out of that lineup. Gus, You're a plane factory! I love the look of the full fuse Pow Wow, though it might take a very skilled hand to tame it in a pattern flight. Sure looks like a good one to cut loose in a freestyle romp. I want a full fuse plane, but it'll be a kit Oriental next Winter. I wouldn't know where to start with a scratch build. I've been a profile guy so long I probably disappear when I turn sideways. If you ever do a build thread for one, I would thoroughly enjoy it. I could look at the Stunthangar guys' builds, but they are making $1000 dollar ships that just make my eyes glaze over.

Hey Gus, Your airplanes are all beautiful... but the Pow Wow to me is the "Ivory Girl" in the line-up. (and I mean that in a most admiring way!)
