Enya 15-lll
Picked this up today, still has good compression. I was hoping someone could comment on quality and the availability of a CL Venturi.

Thanks,

Re: Enya 15-lll
I don't know about a drop in, mine 3303 came made in the front. crankcase .
I had to purchase a needle assy for it was missing a 15-19 size was all I could find , 9-6 prop 9,600 was all I could get Ken Cook said I should drill the Ventura out ..the needle was probably more set for a 19 size and was not getting the intake it would need to turn any more . I have nt done that but will in time. Eric

Re: Enya 15-lll
I purchased one of these new as a kid. Great engine. I think you may be over-propping it with a 9x6 Eric. Enya recommends 8x4 for free flight, 8x5-6 for C/L and maximum 9x4 R/C.
If you want, I could measure the venturi. Each C/L engine came with 2 venturis, one for stunt (smaller) and a larger one for more speed. I only ever used the smaller one for good fuel draw. Sure I would have been getting more RPM than that.
Buying direct off Enya is easy. They have various venturis. Good prices, very friendly & helpful. Ken Enya himself answers your enquiries. Just Google Enya Metal Products. You can choose English.
Port timing on the Enyas is the same for C/L & R/C so swaping the carb for an insert & NVA should produce the same performance as a factory fit.

Re: Enya 15-lll
Jim, the 3303 can be a bit problematic. They don't like the muffler at all and will overheat quickly. I found the FP .15 needle valve to work far superior than the stock unit due to the diameter being slightly smaller thus having a larger venturi. More fuel equates to more cooling. The 3303 has casted web stiffeners within the exhaust area which I feel contributes to it not liking the muffler due to further more restriction. The 3304 has a slightly larger diameter head for more cooling and no casting webs within the exhaust area. Shtterman has all of your Enya needs. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ENYA-15-19-VENTURI-ROUND-ALUMINUM-/291074439784?pt=US_Radio_Control_Control_Line&hash=item43c5637a68
This engine like the Fox .15 wants to turn up. Running a 8 " prop might suit the rc guys but it doesn't in the control line world. The APC 7x6 is much better. Don't be afraid of the nitro. This can be a happy engine on 15%. It also helps it run cooler. This engine though really doesn't like the wedge tank with the pickup far outboard as this can cause the engine to go way over lean at the end of the run. While uniflow helps, it doesn't solve this problem. Many times I would start out dead rich to the point it would barely get off of the ground and by the end of the run it was out of control lean. I solved this by changing my tank design. Enya's if not broken in can be a real pain in the rear. They just take forever to do so and this is why many got rid of them. That's when I would happily take them off of their hands as they would really turn out to be real nice running and dead reliable engines. Ken

Jim,
It's easy to change out the venturi. Throw a post out in the classifieds on SH or SS. Maybe even BOTR.
To be honest though RC carbs do work well due to a smaller opening and longer throat.

Re: Enya 15-lll
Thanks for the input. Ken, I had just purchased a Venturi from Jim Lee right before you posted the eBay link. I will definitely use the Fp needle. I will eventually put this motor in a perky so it will be short runs and no muffler. I may even disassemble the engine and dremel the center web out of the exhaust to open it up some and make it pretty.

Re: Enya 15-lll
i think I purchased my engine new around 1977. Pencil price on the back say $29-. They never came with a plug & I think the shop owner threw in one for nothing. The venturi pictured has never been fitted. Being bigger I figured it would create a little more power but it seemed to run well enough with the one that was already fitted. At 15 I knew nothing about running-in and I just fired it up, got it screaming & flew it. Also knew nothing about cleaning & after-run oiling. After 30 years, I squirted a bit of fuel around, gently rocked it until it moved free, fueled it and it fired up. Took a minute or so to clear its throat but after a tank of fuel ran sweet as a button.

Engine is still hanging on the front of an Aeroflyte Spitfire after its last flight 30 years ago. Not so pretty to look at due to the crud build-up, but I might get a photo later.

Re: Enya 15-lll
The Enya .15-III TV is a powerful engine. I've flown it at the front of my Ringmaster Junior. With a Masters 8x6 prop and throttle wired fully open it does the same lap times as my OS Max .15FP-S on 8x4 prop, both unmuffled. This was using 15% nitro on both engines.

Ringmaster Jr. at 30" (760mm) wingspan and 200 in2 (12.9 dm2) is a tad small for these engines, as I get 4 second lap times on 58 feet lines and to balance added significant weight to the tail. These engines are too heavy and too powerful for this small of plane.
