Reed Speed qualifying photos... Post em if ya got em. (2014)
Alright,
Pick the ONE photo of your speed model you want to post as your qualifier and put it on THIS THREAD by midnight mountain time March 31st. Tell us what aircraft you modeled in your post please. You are only posting one photo here because when posting is closed a poll will be set up and there will be voting for best model, no prizes just bragging rights.
Good Luck!
Jim

This is my version of the F2G-1 Super Corsair piloted to a win in the 1949 Thompson Trophy Race by Cook Cleland:

Miss Ashley ll, a home built P-51 fuselage mated to a Learjet wing and tail. Miss Ashley competed in the '98 and '99 Reno air races. Miss Ashley came apart in flight during the '99 race killing pilot Gary Levits.

I would like to keep this thread comment free to make it as easy as possible for Jacob to compile photos into a poll.

I know the Corsair was a lot more work, but I can't help but love the look of Miss Ashly. Would you be willing to post weights? I understand if you don't. There are some details I hesitate to divulge about mine. I think we're going to have some real competitors in this race.

How did you design/mount the landing gear wires on the Ashley?
Thanks,

There is a small 1/8 ply hard mount with a 2/56 blind nut in each wing. Each gear sits in a mount and is sandwiched with 1/8 ply held in place with a 2/56 Allen bolt. The hard mounts sit on a carbon fibre spar so they don't punch through the wing on a hard landing.

Wow.... The wing is alot thicker than I thought. So it goes, spar> 1/8 base> wire> 1/8 cover?
How thick is the spar? Which brings up another question. Is a spar really needed? I used to fling my little Sig Skyray around pretty good and the wing is just a thin sheet of wood.

Post a thread on your engine problem, Eric. We'll help you get it sorted out. I have spare reedy parts if you need them expedited.

Which Midnight is that; the one between Sunday and Monday, or the one between Monday and Tuesday? In other words, we better be posting at 11:59PM on which night? Is that a dumb question?JPvelo wrote:Alright,

Thanks for clearing that up for me, JP. I bet there's only one person on the whole forum that was confused about that. Now you can imagine why I build so slowly.JPvelo wrote:Correct, midnight Monday night the 31st.Cribbs74 wrote:I am thinking midnight on the 31st or 12AM 1 Apr.![]()

Wow, Lieven, that looks like a commercially manufactured model plane. You've got a beautiful touch. The Cowling makes it a really sophisticated flying machine. The scheme is elegant, the paint is neat, even the coffee can cooling vent... or is that the condenser for the pilot's A/C?
It's so powerful he can be cool and fast at the same time.
Good work.
Rusty
