need help identifying this bee
This one came in a lot I picked up on eBay
I don't recall seeing this backplate before. The fill nipple is on the left looking at it from the front and it has a sweep hole next to the fill nipple with nothing on the right. I also came with a later cylinder with the slits instead of the two open exhaust ports. I cleaned it and overhauled it tonight. Hope to test run this one tomorrow night.

One of the last metal backs. The new plastic backs are set up like that.

Thanks Phil!
I did some searching and did not find anything. I actually ordered a plastic back plate to replace a broken one but had not noticed they were the same configuration. Give me a metal back plate any day...

Re: need help identifying this bee
Chances are good it is a two bypass, one boost per bypass cylinder. This is good as it is the best porting available. Look through the exhaust for light under the piston at TDC to determine how much SPI there is. Hold the engine against a light and at TDC look through the exhaust ports and see if light shows under the piston skirt. Most show a couple thou, barely any, but some show quite a bit more, which allows more air into the air/fuel charge.(they all have some, but most are nearly none) The head is a high compression head from a TD. You probably want 3 gaskets for 25% nitromethane.
This is a good candidate to hop up a little. The baby tank will need drilled out in the air passage to 5/64 or 2mm which will make the power similar to a black widow, if the P/C set has SPI then it will be a very strong engine.
You can also order a baby stunt tank through Coxengines.ca, but it will need the air passage opened up still.

Re: need help identifying this bee
great info phil!
thanks for sharing. i will do a little investigating when i get a chance.
do they have starting problems with high compression? or are they meant to run a higher % of methane? either way it sounds like i need to pick up some head gaskets and a stunt tank
did some looking on the cox int. website and found scans of the manuals, a chart showing the differences between all the engines and a performance manual. downloaded, printed and put into a binder for future reference. had no idea there were so many variations..
