Failure to launch... Or landing gear placement is critical.

Failure to launch... Or landing gear placement is critical.
After getting off the phone with Rusty I decided to make good on my claim to fly my speed plane this evening.
I set up and when I gave the release signal The model went forward about a foot and nosed over. At first I was thinking bad release or I hit a bump, but after a third attempt I knew something was wrong.
So the lesson here is just because it looks right doesn't mean it is. Luckily I was able to release the epoxy bond with heat. Back to the drawing board.
TLAR strikes again!

Just because it looks awesome...
This is actually a common problem with model airplanes, the gear needs to be farther forward than the real airplane had. If you did not pants the gear then just bend them so the wheels are slightly in front of the wing.
Since I never planned to do awesome scale gear I put my gear grass field forward.

Grab the tail and stand the plane up on it's wheels until it is level, then let go. If the tail falls it's probably OK. If it goes nose over then it will need to be moved.
Mine went nose over during that scenario. I could have added tail weight, but the plane was already balanced where I wanted it. Of course now that the gear is more forward so is the nose weight

Ya can't cuss Eric!
