1960's OK Models Pilot .09 Cessna 177 CL
I started this one last year. I thought I'd take you through the build. It is built from an OK Models Pilot CL kit of the 1960's. I've made changes to the original. The engine I am using is an Enya .09-III TV R/C engine with throttle wired wide open. It will be mounted inverted, to give the aeroplane a clean looks. Bellcrank on the original was mounted exposed under the wing. I have moved it into the fuselage. Fuselage top and bottom planking was specified as standard ceral box cardboard. I used 1/32" (0.8mm) sheet basswood. For longer runs, I replaced the 2/3 oz (20cc) fuel tank with a 1 oz (30cc) tank.
The only balsa in it is the top cowling plank. The rest is hardwood. Although this was considered a beginner's intermediate model, I've decided to do better. Plans for the plane can be found here:

Here are photos of my build starting from the beginning to the last photo, which is the wingtip leadout guide that I manufactured and am now installing.

Another neat looking build. What was wrapped around the fuselage - were they elastic bands?

Thanks, Ian. Yes, those are various sized elastic bands. I used them to temporarily hold the basswood planking in place until the water based aliphatic resin carpenter's glue dried.ian1954 wrote:Another neat looking build. What was wrapped around the fuselage - were they elastic bands?
