"Should make a great F/F speed model"??
I'd rather design an unlimited-vertical "rocket-type" altitude-record model for a Cox engine, given a certain amount of fuel.. with a parachute recovery!!! Any takers for a CEF contest?

Oooooh, I have two SIG Komanders, still new in their boxes. One is the original, the other is a Mk II.
But, this is neat...I made paper airplanes, of the same configuration as the Octogon, in 1983 or 1984. I don't think I had ever seen this model before today, though. Great minds think alike. I was just years behind!

I recall reading a couple of articles in Popular Mechanics magazines in the library at High School in the 70s. One that caught my eye was a plane with a ring for a wing, much like the octagon, although the fuselage was more conventional with a single large ring. I also remember a flying disc. I think they were both recommended for Cox power.
Anyone ever built one of these?

Martian Invader from Mechanix Illustrated magazine. Couldn't find my picture of a finished model.
Rod.

I had a photo of one someone did with Calvin in one cockpit and Hobbs in the other, but can't find it.

Note: This isn't mine...think one of the members on the .049 Group built it.

That Octagon stuck with me as soon as I saw it. It can be in my Wannado club.

Apart from the engine that Martian Invader is like something straight out of the Jetsons. Just looking at it I can hear that noise they used on the show.

That was my first impression too, just needs the glass dome over it.Davenz13 wrote:Apart from the engine that Martian Invader is like something straight out of the Jetsons. Just looking at it I can hear that noise they used on the show.
