Air Capital CL contest. Wichita Kansas Aug 9-10
I was really hesitant to post anything about this event as I had a really bad experience.
However, it's not all about me and this was a really well organized and super event. Many participants and lot's of good times. The Wichihawks hospitality is top notch.
My day started out at 3:30 AM, contest started at 9AM and I wanted to get there early so I had a chance to practice. It had been 3 months since I flew anything. So I met up with my OKC buds and we all drove to Wichita.
We made it by 7:30 AM and I was surprised to see that many people had already arrived and set up tents. Thunderstorms in the area gave way so I threw up a practice flight to get my feet wet
About 3 minutes into my flight I gave down when I should have gave up.

I drove 3 hrs and took myself out of the competition within 10 minutes of my arrival. I made a rookie mistake and it cost me huge. I was embarrassed, to say the least as everyone was watching. My 3 flying buddies had just drove up with me to cheer me on. I felt horrible and I almost let it ruin my entire day.
Luckily once the events started going I kind of put my thoughts on the back burner.
Lot's of racing events before stunt popped up. 1/2A mouse, Goodyear, Foxberg etc. Luckily one of my OKC pals decided to enter his T-Bird in Expert Classic and won.
Here are some pictures and I will post a couple videos later.

Thanks Kim,
It did suck. Still does, the biggest kick in the teeth is I broke my Silver Foxx .40
Anyway, enough whining!
Here are a couple video's, the first one is Joe Gilbert flying the OTS pattern with his S-1. The second is Larry Oakley flying in Expert Classic, the score was 560 something

Ron, have you tried to contact Lou? I think that would be in order here. Man, that does hurt and I feel your pain. I've done it and I've destroyed engines equally. Just take a deep breath and realize that it can happen. Lou just might even tell you to box it up and send it to him. Just a thought. I hope the pizza was good

Well no, funny thing is I was at his house the day it happened. I didn't realize it was broke until I unbolted it from what was left of the nose the following morning.

The above yellow plane with the broken prop... I read about that being from the rubber bands on the tank popping. I'm almost never lax about that in my preflight. I'll change that to Never Ever lax.
Ron I'm glad you stuck around for the rest of the contest. I hope that doesn't turn you off of competitive flying at least once in a while. My two contests are about right for me. Though I am being needled all the time about going to next year's Brodak.

Nah,
It was upsetting to say the least, kind of one of those deals where I know I can fly better, but embarrassed myself instead. I'll do Tulsa in Sept.

Ron, Okay, Tulsa in September? Then, it's on! We can have a duel: Mono y Mono, Plane vs Plane! Finally, some competition! You bring your judges, I'll bring mine- HA HA, not really. That will probably be the last contest for me, for the year, then. Get your favorite plane ready; you've seen mine! Maybe we can get more than the two of us in this battle, and have the Beginner Class dominate the stunt entries. That would be funny! When is it? We need REAL pilots to fly with...not an empty space on the scoreboard! But, you know, it has to be fair, still: no flyers from the upper classes coming down to Beginner, just to fill in the spaces. Gotta be real beginners. You game, Dude?
This sounds like a call-out, like on Street Outlaws! But I don't have that kind of cash, or hot planes.
Let me know, Ron, This could be fun! Oh, And to make it tougher- I will fly with just ONE HAND!
Thanks,
GUS THE I.A.

When is the Tulsa contest? Are they flying more than Stunt events? The sooner I know, the better I can make plans.
Thanks,
GUS

Not sure, maybe the guys I came with in Wichita. They will not be flying in beginner though.
