The colours and everything else is a result of my own imagination. V1s were couloured green/brown on top only as in the picture with the Heinkel.

CEF speed contest Design Discussions (2014) - Page 17 2_210

My grand parents and my dad, an 8 year old boy in '44, saw V1's flying over their house on the way to the UK. They lived in the province of Eastern Flanders, Belgium. The first time they saw one, they were very afraid as something flying with a flame on the tail meant to them it could immediately explode. They knew later that NO flame at the back was dangerous!!

Machines of war.. technological terrors. Living in that time.. and in the vicinity, must have been terrifying. The V1's shot down or redirected, could fall anywhere if they didn't explode in the air.. hopefully a body of water or a field.. but maybe a country road, your barn or your house.. any time of the day/night. You couldn't prepare for that.

this is my favorite pic of a hurricane manned by a poles of the 303 squadron
the 303 squadron shot down the most aircraft during the battle of britain
here is a video on them

Hey, thanks for the history lesson! Very entertaining and educational. Sad to find out the Brits ignored the accomplishments of the 303 squadron at the end of the war, by giving their country to the communists.

Thanks for your comments guys. After finishing the model, I thought it wouldn't be complete without a launching ramp. Just for fun I made a simple catapult to launch the model. I used a rubber band and some polyester sewing thread, plank and ali profile. I made a hook on the bottom landing skid and an eye at the rear to fix to the trigger. The whole thing works, but of course, this is not a glider, same as the real thing, looking at the wing on Jim's picture. But maybe it shoots off enough to get it going. The plane can be launched with the plank hand held or with a tripod which I haven't made yet!

Rod, When I tried to fly my Caudron for the first contest, the plane turned into the circle several times and I lost control. On such small models, the engine torque has a significant influence on the the way it flies and it tends to lift the right wing. This make the plane turn. By turning clock wise, the torque of the engine should keep the lines tight.

A while ago, Jim posted an article about a speed biplane. The article said that the secret to its remarkable flight capabilities was the CW running of the engine with a left hand prop while flying CCW. Bearing that in mind, I hope to achieve the same thing.

I love this contest and the various models and for second (or is it third) year/time I find myself in November with lots of ideas but nothing started....dang it! (that and the fact that I have zero experience in good photography much less video) and truth be told the video portion is what keep me procrastinating as I am a modeler of one in my area and just launching off a stooge is a lot of prep..... positioning a cell phone (my only camera theses days) to record the flight is beyond my ability

No excuse either as I have everything need to scratch build any 1/2a plane ever designed or dreamed of

On the other hand this thread and all the ideas make for great reading, learning, and innovative ideas

You guys keep pumping out the beautiful examples of aircraft modeling and lots of us will enjoy the trip around the circle with you

The answer to that question is YES! More importantly.. the line-length has been reduced to 35 feet from 42.  Thumbs Up

Scroll down below the photo in the 1st post.. and you'll see the Tee Dee info. there. I've got a Tee33 Dee (Shooting Star) started.. but haven't got much more done other than cut the pieces out.. Sad

It's the Lawrence Institute of Technology G-1 Goodyear racer 1949 version. It was a 'dog' and mine is kinda heavy, as you see it here, at 92 grams.

Looking at the design, I can't see how they thought it would be competitive in Goodyear racing. A dog indeed. But, if they made the wingspan 35 to 40 feet it looks like it might make one hell of a motorglider.
