The First Tach Race

The First Tach Race
I remember following the "First Annual 049 Collector’s Proxy Tach Race" on
Mark Boesen's site, but I just stumbled on Reggie Johnson's write-up/recap today.
Yikes, 5 1/2 years ago.

Re: The First Tach Race
Interesting numbers.
Also interesting is the prop choice, that's the prop I used for my reed speed run. I would like to use something other than the Cox 5x3 next go around.
Thanks for posting that Bob.

Re: The First Tach Race
I think if the majority wanted to, we could return to APC props and 35% nitro, the increase in RPM should not be that great.
In 2009 we used 4.75x4 APC and 35% for unlimited/open, with top RPM at 20k, last year the my unlimited/open turned about the same with a 5x3 and 25%...

Re: The First Tach Race
Mark,
It's true, I don't think it would be a huge increase, but if your engine turned over 20K with a 5x3 and 25% then 21K plus would have been possible with the APC and 35%
Sending you a PM

Re: The First Tach Race
That was an excellent enthusiastic writeup. Thanks Bob for posting it. That helped spark my interest in getting an engine ready for this January. I think I have a contestant already. A pre-'96 BW, not sure what class, but I made a movie about it a couple of years ago when I built it following Paul's article. It hasn't been run since then.dckrsn wrote:I remember following the "First Annual 049 Collector’s Proxy Tach Race" on

Re: The First Tach Race
I thought I wrote that!? Isn't that the contest article I wrote after I hosted the first Tach Race?
Reggie did a nice job editing the pics into the story, thanks man.

I think static runs would be as you say, Mark. The APC unloads greatly in the air and that's where the great benefit of that prop lies. Static it's similar, though an increase of 1K is quite a lot.

lol, yep, i'm pretty sure it was an oversight, your name is at the bottom, but if you read thru it quickly i see where it could be missed.
Anyway a big thanks again for getting the ball rolling on this!
