Cox Engine of The Month
Went to a flea market today
Went to a flea market today
...and picked up a few engines! Paid $10 each. The guy has a few OK Cubs and some pipe bombs as well as some larger engines like a FOX 15, an O&R 23 in pieces and a few others I can't exactly recall at this moment. I'm going back tomorrow, if he still has them I'll probably have to pick them up. I also spotted a few of those little spring bottom oilers I know everyone likes for around $4 that I should get if they are still there.

Looks like it might be this one Jacob.
Could be .010 or .020?
Congrats on a nice haul.

Re: Went to a flea market today
6 fins on head says it's a K&B Infant .020. Torp Jr .035 has 5 fins and Torpedo .049 (like in Kim's picture) uses a standard glow plug.
The .020 & .035 used a "drop-in" plug insert. .035 replacement I haven't been able to find for mine, but someone was reproducing the Infant and had new plugs available. They're as rare as rocking horse droppings. (Poo )

Cool haul Jacob,
Hope you get the others tomorrow. If not just to sell to buy more Cox stuff.
I don't think I have ever seen an 8cc non stunt tank before.

Came on some RTF cox planes and Cox also sold a tank kit that was non vented. I have a couple.

Really? They were used on product engines throughout the years, the Texaco .049 used a red anodized 8cc non-stunt tank and after Estes started to cheap up engines in the early 2000s, the Babe Bee and Black Widow both came with plastic 8cc non-stunt tanks.

Maybe I just never paid attention
I even have a Texaco and it had never dawned on me until you just mentioned that. Perhaps because it's red and not silver. I have just never seen a bare aluminum one. I have no Estes engines so that's my other lame excuse.

Re: Went to a flea market today
There is something about old neglected engines that gets my heart to pumping. I like to take them apart and "restore" them like many others.
What did Cox make? Hundreds of thousands, millions?
My very first engine was a diesel. Was supposed to run on ether if I recall correctly.
Fantastic Flea Finds there!!!

That large tank Bee was maybe in a Spitfire, looking at the firewall and spinner.

Re: Went to a flea market today
May people refer to the large alloy non-stunt tanked engine as a "Silver Bee" but this may not be an official Cox name.
I think crankbndr may be right that these were in the Spitfire.

Re: Went to a flea market today
I went back yesterday, picked up a few more things. The rest of the engines were gone except for an Enya .35 that was missing its head and some carb parts. The bag of O&R .23 parts were still there too, there were enough parts to build what looked like 2 1/2 engines, but there were no screws in the bag.
I bought 2 small spring bottom oilers, some early surface mount light switches, an old GE iron that was on the dollar table and a Testors P-63 plane with the .049 engine for just $5. I'll take some pics in a little while.

Nice score on that testors plane! I'll give you $6 for it

Missing the canopy and one of the elevators is broken off and missing but for $5 it was worth it.
