My inverted landing

My inverted landing
Hi Guys
Over the weekend I was flying my 15size trainer. Over time it seems the tank lowered. Then while flying inverted, it was too rich and cut on me. So I had to land it inverted. Took the rudder off half way and bent the needle. Lukily I could get it on the grass to land. We fly on a tarred circle.
Will teach me to check everything before flying.
But at least it was an easy fix:
So, back to flying.

Nice plane. Stuff happens. Good that your plane suffered minor damage, and needle could be straightened. Good rudder repair, can't tell it was broken.

Re: My inverted landing
It maybe an ides to consider shortening the needle "handle" - I think you were lucky that it gave way rather than damaging the NVA or the venturi.
The plane looks good and I am sure that you are enjoying flying it.

Welcome to the club, those things do happen. Like Ian suggested now is a good time to shorten the needle.

Re: My inverted landing
lol, that was a "good" crash, very little repairs needed.
Be careful, every time I straighten a bent needle like that i'll end up breaking the needle, I've heard of people heating the needle before rebending?

Hi Guys
Thanks for the comments. The guy I fly with says that you heat it up until it is nice red hot, then you can bend it.
I will try and shorten the needle. Better that way than bending or breaking it again.

Re: My inverted landing
yep, it makes sense to heat it up, also a small wheel collar works great for a knob to help turn it after you cut it.
Re: My inverted landing

Crash damage: You got away easy!
I've seen a lot worse crashes.
My first "inverted landing" with my PDQ Circus Prince pretty much totalled the plane, although it was eventually repaired.
And, a bit of trivia regarding this plane: It was advertized as being powered with an "A" sized engine which I believe was 0.09 to 0.19.
My Fox 0.09 didn't even have enough power to pull it into the air from a hand launch.
My Fox 0.15 ("same mounting hole pattern as the Fox 0.09!") flew it just fine, save for the aformentioned "inverted landing".
