High-tech Cox glow-clip
Here's one for the electronics buff's... Could a small 1.5V LED be bridged into the clip-circuit.. to illuminate when continuity is made through the plugs coil? One thing I like about using a panel.. is the ammeter serves as a check that the plug is lit.. but what if you want a simple 1/2A no-frills flight support pack.. containing for instance; a x2-D-cell battery-box.. 1/2 pint of fuel.. spare prop.. etc. It would be a handy little thing to have for troubleshooting.

LEDs emit light when forward biased so it will draw current and drop .7volts from the battery if you want it lit while cranking. Maybe design a little switching circuit with a separate button battery for the LED. I'll think about it later tonight.

I have one a LED light comes on when you have conection. I can also adjust the output in volts to suit the glow plug type. It runs off my 12v starter battery and converts to LV.

The Lipo driven ones do just that, they have a green LED for ok plug and red for low battery level. Plus they have a regulated output that gives you 1.5V independent on current draw and charge state in the battery. No cables to worry about, and only slightly larger that a regular NiMh driver. Best hand-held driver I've ever had.
