I've eyed that kit several times, anxious to see the build!

So am I, I'm very excited to get started, It looks to be an easy very straight forward build and laser cut to boot! Far cry from the older die cut kits which I'm used to building.JPvelo wrote:I've eyed that kit several times, anxious to see the build!

Anyway as I stated earlier, I'm going to post some extra pics to better show the contents. Look for the build soon!

Ought to be a fun build. Let us know how you intend to finsh it. Sanding sealer, clear dope, color dope, clear or something else.
Looks like a built up wing and profile fuse?

You are correct, It's a built up wing profile model. As far as finishing I'm planning on using Monokote for the wing and colored dope for the fuse. I'll have some more kit pics up soon probably later this evening.
I also plan on using this model for the timed competition if it happens again. That looked like fun!

Re: Brodak F4F Wildcat
I've shyed away of those Brodak 1/2A warbirds as the wing area is a little smallish, but with a TD on the snout it should be spirited to say the least.
The wing looks very similar to the Baby Ring and the wing area is near identical. Should be a blast. Keep us posted throughout the build and especially the maiden flight!

Hey Bandit, I'm looking forward to your build.
Be sure and wipe some of the charcoal off of the laser cut edges so it doesn't interfere with any of your various glues. It might not matter, but it seems like a good idea to me. Especially where you want Monokote to stick.
Rusty
P.S. KEEP those wing alignment jigs. You'll use them many times in the future, especially the trail edge ones.

You know I've never used those jigs. I still have all of them I might have to give it a try on my next build.

Re: Brodak F4F Wildcat
I'll post pics as the build progresses I'm still in the process of getting all the components (waiting on a tank from Cox International and still need to get the finishing supplies) I didn't think about keeping the wing jigs I'll do that thanks for the tip!
Also I forgot it was on the box at the time i took the pic but on the kitbox on the right hand corner is my old Webra speedy 12 which I have not seen many of.
Anyway as promised, here's some more pics of the kit contents;

Here's the contents in an exploded format seems my Tee Dee can't wait!

The laser cut parts just begging to be assembled!

Hardware pack with lightweight plastic wheels. Nice but I wonder if I should replace them with something better Hmm

Re: Brodak F4F Wildcat
If you fly over grass I would lose the landing gear completely. I would also strongly suggest going with a bladder instead of a tank. Bladders seem daunting at first but are extremely easy and great running once you get the process down.

Re: Brodak F4F Wildcat
I'll second the bladder however, if you only plan on flying in circles and doing the odd loop, you may get by with a hard tank. If you are a full on stunt flyer then bladder for sure.
Here is a video of me flying a year or so ago. Stock TD .049 on a hard tank. You can hear the engine surge off and on when doing stunts. That is pretty common with a TD. A Medallion, while less powerful does quite well on a hard tank.

Nice video man I had an original Carl Goldberg jumpin' bean with a medallion .049 back in the early 90'sCribbs74 wrote:I'll second the bladder however, if you only plan on flying in circles and doing the odd loop, you may get by with a hard tank. My intention is mostly straight and level with an odd loop or too or wing over so a hard tank will do for a while. I'm not much into stunt at least not yet I would like to learn it however. To tell ya the truth while I do know how to fly C/L and really enjoy it I've just never have had the opportunity to really practice. I'm self tought and learned as a kid with just about no help on an Testors EZ Flyer mustang equipped with that pipebomb engine which was one of the most cantankerous engines I've messed with (If you could get it started and adjusted then get to the handle and make one lap you did good) either way it tought me well. I may try a badder later especially if I try a speed event.
Thanks for the tips!
