Hi guys had a decent day today still a little cool but ok so I pulled out my stand and plopped my TD on it and fed it some Cox super power fuel. It has a fairly new P/C set so I went easy on it so no rpm figures yet anyway here's a pic and a vid enjoy!! (Bandit)

Haaaaa, that sounded good to me. Too bad we don't have  "Smellivision" as I could use a good wiff of burnt nitro to brighten up these winter blues tongue

Yeah, I also liked watching the fuel dropping thru the zip tie gauge as she ran.

Yup, it's a Tee Dee. Clapping
Finest little Cox engine ever. Now, Bandit, I can't recall, is this a new P/C or already broken in?
After Fit90 Bob gave me my first Tee Dee I had a helluva time cranking it. I'd never had a rotary valve engine before. But when I finally got it going with a flimsy nylon Top Flite 5x3, the needle was leaky so it was up and down really quick and I could see the prop flexing in and out with every change in speed. Scared the hell out of me and I had to resist the urge to dive under the table Lol. After I got the hang of it, I started telling everyone who would listen, Once you go Tee Dee, you'll never go back! And it's true, I had graduated from Black Widows and Bees. Then not too much later I was saying the same thing about bladders. I was in a whole new world of high performance. Never mind that Norvel later swept me off my feet. Devil Bob corrupted me with that brand new Big Mig too.

It's just about fully broken in. It's got maybe 5oz through it since changing out the P/C set after a crash damaged the old cylinder at the exhaust port back in the 90's.
Yup the little Tee Dee is the most angry sounding engine that Cox has made and it also responsible for a few bandaids too on my part lol. (Bandit)

Hah, yeah me too, just recently got buzzed by an APC prop. The soft underbelly of the base of my thumb. Had to fly it with a rag wrapped around my hand. Luckily I travel with bandaids... if you can get them to stick.
lol!

Ouch, aside from the master airscrew "razor prop" as I call em APC's cause some of the worst prop bites out there with that thin sharp tip, not forgiving at all. I always keep bandaids in my kit along with gause pads, med tape and the like. As soon as I get some more time on er i'm gonna do a tach run with it. Then it's going in my wildcat since it's almost finished. We still need to come up with a little fly-in btw Spring and summer is fast approaching! (Bandit)

Hey, I got the pic but no sign of a video. Wouldn't mind seeing it run 'cos I have an .051 (my only Tee Dee) and I've never got around to running it. I don't think I'd ever mount it to a plane. Tee Dees are just too few and far between out here, plus the falling AU$ is quickly making them even less affordable to import.

Sure they are..mine gulps 2 oz/60ccm in a flight of about 10-11 minutes. True though, that a TD 049/51 produces plenty of power.

TeeDee 051 a.k.a. Te(rribl)e Dee lol! ...Pictured here is my right ring finger after a close encounter 2 years ago with the prop on a screaming  TD051..the skin is pretty thin there and the bone was nicely visible...took some time for the medics at the ER to decide whether to sew or just patch it up..luckily the latter sufficed.

Yeah that sounded pretty good / that 51 really used up the fuel , balogh was that 10-11 mins or u mean laps Laughing I think once broken in and a smaller prop. so you can tweek it at a higher rpm will get you alittle better fuel mileage . Thanks for the vid Bandit , Eric Very Happy

Not a problem Smile
It's tacking around 20k with the cox grey 5x3 right now on Cox superpower 25% but as I said, I'm being easy on it. Once it gets some more time on it' i'm gonna go to a bladder setup with an APC and see what she does but I'm gonna wait till it warms up a little more before I do so. Fuel consumption won't improve much more but it's power will go up Smile (Bandit)

Man, that was smooth as silk. Great run. Was that prop a Cox 5-4 Rubber ducky? I thought it looked like one. My favorite for CL is a cut down 6x3 Master Airscrew. I cut them to 5.5, 5.25, and 5". But I know propping for RC is different. What kind of tank and plumbing were you using?
Rusty

EDIT: Yeah, we've started putting in the links along with the embed. Theo in South Africa and Rod in Australia can't watch the embed and I think there are a couple more members who have that problem.

Rusty if the question is about my video (I guess because you refer to RC), the prop is the 5x4 Thimble Drome sold by Bernie. The engine revs unloaded between 22-24k. I have just tached the vid with my smartphone app again. I have a party balloon for the tank in the nose that carries 2 oz fuel which lasts for about 10 minutes depending on how often I throttle the engine with the exhaust throttle barrel.

Here is my birdie the nitro-convert electro Toucan  a bit disemboweled to display the party balloon tank in its nose.
Exercising my TD .051 Toucan10

My flight vid shown in this thread a few post back way shot a year ago, since then I have re-propped the TD with a 5x3 Thimble Drome competition prop (some on CEF suggested it is way more efficient than the 5x4, yet to be proven, I did the repropping yesterday after the 5x4 broke being brittle  yesterday in a freezing flight) and changed to oracover on the fuse.

Otherwise the plane is just the same very forgiving and friendly. Maybe a few grams fatter because of the inadvertently soaked up castor notwithstanding the sealing layers inside the fuse and the oracover outside.

Yeah I've had my share of bites too. my worst one happened when it was being stubborn and out of frustration, I forgot about the dang battery which was still attached and I was trying to flip a flood out of it it suddenly decided to give me a little supprize by starting while I was giving it an experimental flip which startled me and I managed to put my finger right back into the then master airscrew razor-prop equipped mouth of a really mad Tee Dee and you can guess what happened next. Required 4 stitches too. (Bandit)

Last spring I shook hands with the 12x6 prop on my OS FS56 4-stroke....luckily it was just idling on the ground but the prop cut a deep wound in my hand...

So at the end I gathered no matter if you use chicken stick or an electric starter (which i also use) if the beast wants to bite you she will find the opportunity. May be in retaliation of some abuse we do on them?
