The passing of Mike McGraw (Glowplugboy)
It is with great saddness that we announce the passing of Mike McGraw, a.k.a. Glowplugboy. He died of a heart attack yesterday
He was the gent that we recommended for Cox glow fuel as his fuel, as well as his service, were exceptional.
We will try to find out if the fuel business will continue but, at this point, his website is no longer up and running.
Mike was a fine fellow and his passing represents a great loss to the modelling community.

Oh, Man. If it's possible, and would be considered proper, please let me know if there is a way to pass condolences to his family.
Sorry for this sad news.

His phone # is 281-844-5431. However, I only reached a voice mail and did not leave a message. I will try to speak with his wife in person.
Re: Obituary - The passing of Mike McGraw (Glowplugboy)
Terrible loss to the ever-shrinking, 1/2A community.
Re: Obituary - The passing of Mike McGraw (Glowplugboy)
Oh my, I'm so sorry to hear that. That is a loss for us. He was always quick to respond and friendly in e-mails. His blend was always my favorite fuel. I always imagined him stirring it up in his garage, though I really have no idea about that.

Very sorry to hear that.
Like Rusty, GPB was my favorite fuel.
Condolences to his family.

By the same token, does anyone have a recommendation as to where else to buy fuel besides the vedors we have listed in our fuel guide?

Re: Obituary - The passing of Mike McGraw (Glowplugboy)
This is too bad... Another notable person gone from the small and shrinking 1/2A community. Doesn't sound like it at the moment with the site being down and all but hopefully the fuel business will go on somehow. Keep his legacy alive.
Re: Obituary - The passing of Mike McGraw (Glowplugboy)
I plan to look into it. I prefer the pure castor as opposed to the mix with synthetic, though I usually raise Mike's an extra 3%. I always feel like the engines are safer from damage from an accidental too-lean run, which can happen especially in 1/2A.Cox International wrote:By the same token, does anyone have a recommendation as to where else to buy fuel besides the vedors we have listed in our fuel guide?

Dang and I was going to get some more fuel for this summer. Looks like he is from the Houston TX area. Couldn't find an obit yet.

I spoke with Mrs. McGraw and the fuel business will remain shut as she has no idea about fuel and Mike was doing this alone.
Re: Obituary - The passing of Mike McGraw (Glowplugboy)
I wonder how much inventory and raw material he had on hand?

I'll look for an obit tomorrow. He was an industrial organizational psychologist. It's sad to see one of our fellow hobbyists pass. An unpleasant reminder of our own mortality. Enjoy every day.

So, where does everyone get their fuel from, short of mixit it yourself?
Also, does anyone have a recommendation as to where to get diesel fuel in the UK as well as Australia?

Nice looking guy, a Minister and a Psycologist and RC enthusiast. With a 19 year old son. Three years younger than me.

Re: Obituary - The passing of Mike McGraw (Glowplugboy)
And Honest to a fault...
I once got a little frisky, and paid for my order before he could invoice me with correct shipping. The guy refunded 2-3 bucks to my Paypal account to square things up, with a patient note to please wait for him to invoice it the next time I bought fuel.
Taking the time, and going to that trouble, for so small an amount to compensate for goofyness on my part, well...we DO miss guys like that...

Re: Obituary - The passing of Mike McGraw (Glowplugboy)
i had many fuel discussions with Mike.
it was Mike that gave me the formula for mixing the stuff i use in FF.
one tip he gave me about mixing fuels containing Castor was to mix the Methanol and Castor first, let set overnight, and then add the Nitro.
he was right............nitro and Castor don't hit it off right away, but doing the mix his way worked.
he also told me that a small amount of Acetone acted as an igniter for lower nitro fuels.........Thermals to you Mike, we'll miss you.

I know you asked this question a while ago, but I purchase SIG Champion 1/2a fuel. I checked the other day and it has the right amount of castor mix, although from discussions I have read on this forum, I believe most would add more. The cost is pretty reasonable too. Andy
