Cox Engine of The Month
No WONDER it was anemic!

No WONDER it was anemic!
I've only flown my white PT-19 a few times. It is fun, but always seemed to lack enough oomph to pull through wing-overs and such. I've always flown it with the left handed 6x3 that it came from Cox with, but I replaced the backplate with a KB backplate and the piston/cylinder a Black Widow P/C set. Still, it just didn't pull like I thought it should. So, I was cleaning up the plane today before hanging it back up in the garage, and took a better look at the prop. It's not a 6x3, it's a 6x2! No wonder it wasn't giving me the oomph I expected!
For left handed props, I only have the 4.5x4 from Bernie, and some Tornado 5.5x4 and 6x3 props. I guess I'll balance one of the 6x3 props and give it another try.

Balance that 5.5x4 and see if that is overcome by the drag of the model or not, sometimes they are surprising.

Ah, you beat me to it. It might take a good roll to get it up to flying speed though. Once in the air, it might have that spunk you're looking for. Just don't try to bang it into a wingover. That just kills its energy and it doesn't have enough left to go up and over. Just fly into it like you're making a smooth turn into vertical.stuntflyr wrote:Balance that 5.5x4 and see if that is overcome by the drag of the model or not, sometimes they are surprising.

Unfortunately, that's the issue. If the plane isn't off the ground in 10 or 12 feet, it's in the grass. That's why I went for the 6x3 over the 5.5x4 prop.

Whip it, whip it good. Towing is a good thing to learn.
I was shocked to see the flying fields of some of you guys, I always fly 1/2A on smooth pavement. I must be lucky.

Re: No WONDER it was anemic!
Chris, my runway is some old campaign signs taped together accordian style that I unfold to take off. It's only 18 inches wide and about ten or twelve feet long. I can't try and whip the plane around or I'll pull the plane off the runway into the grass. And trying to actually LAND on it? Fuggedaboudit....

Hah! I get it , Mark. Well, try as one might. I'm sure that 6x3 with go faster but your take off length with the 6x2 must've been impressive.
