Re: Baby Clown Question
Eric, I wouldn't do that. You would only be adding unnecessary weight. Do it if it needs it in the event of a crash, even then it would only be needed 1"-2" beyond the break. This plane flies extremely well but it can be very twitchy. I fly the older plastic mount version and not the newer beam mounted. Ken

Re: Baby Clown Question
I've done it on some and not on others, but never had one break at that joint. I've broken them in plenty of other places. I usually use epoxy there.
Speaking of fiberglass, can y'all tell me what is the weight of the light glass cloth that used to come in Goldberg kits? And where can I get it? I haven't been able to find it.

Re: Baby Clown Question
Eric,
I would glass the splits at the LE/TE. It's cheap insurance without adding much weight.
Rusty, if you haven't split a wing down the middle you are not trying hard enough!

Re: Baby Clown Question
Rusty, Hangar 9 offers .5 oz. cloth which is what I use a lot of. I cover the entire fuse with it using Polycrilic. I give the fuse one coat of poly after the cloth is applied and then I use lacquer primer to fill up the weave. This stuff is light and works well for essentially any repair. Ken

Re: Baby Clown Question
I never realized there was cloth that light, because I've never used it in modelling or paid attention to the weight of the cloth that other people were using. I just weighed a same-size (1 sq. yd.) piece that I have on hand.. and it weighs 5.85oz. I guess that's be more for a full-scale repair job.
I've made fiberglass window screening patches and brushed epoxy through them, to strengthen certain areas. I tack it in place at the corners using thin CA first, to hold it in place while the epoxy sets.

Re: Baby Clown Question
Thanks Ken, now I can get some. I've been using too heavy a grade of fiberglass because I didn't know where to find it.
