So are we.
Get a picture of it at the field with you and your son holding it before its first flight. We'll be awaiting your flight report. Good luck.

Re: And It Begins! My son's first build
Ok... so I am going to go pick up some spider wire and would like to know what the recommend knot is. I have tried to find info on the AMA site on what to use and how to terminate lines but find the site cumbersome and find it impossible to find what I'm looking for to fly 1/2A. I have seen people reference AMA charts but can not find said charts etc. Just want to make sure I'm doing things right!
On another note. Excited to finally have gotten my first issue of the AMA mag!

Re: And It Begins! My son's first build
The AMA recommends a 5-turn Double Uni knot. It works great, and isn't hard to do after a couple of tries. It's what I've always used on braided Spectra lines and never had a knot slip. For 1/2A I like to use 10 pound Spectra in yellow, but I have to settle for 20 pound since that's all I can source locally. But 10 pound is really more than enough for 1/2A. Heck, if I could find 5 pound locally I'd use it for Reedie powered planes.
Here's a fair video. I can't find the one I used to learn how to do it originally. Just replace the lure in the video with your eyelet on the plane.

Thanks! Simple enough. It's frustrating trying to find this stuff on the AMA site. It's important to me to be in compliance with the current regulations.
