Whatever it is.. I like the way it looks. Hope the painting goes well. It will definitely look sharp! I like the way the light catches the satin-smooth sanding job on the fuse.. all the way up to the firewall. That had to have taken a lot of time and patience.
Thanks Roddie!
This is usually where I start getting into trouble ... I can see the finished plane now, and I tend to start rushing it.
I need to go slow .... because from here on out is the reason I'm building this plane. It's a practice plane for the finish scheme I have planned for a Bob Hunt Prowler I have on the bench. I'm a long way from finishing that one ... the wing is 95% done, but the fuse I haven't touched.
I've really enjoyed building this Lil Jumping Bean ,,,, now if I can just transpose the image in my mind, to the plane at hand ...... LOL!!
I wish you luck. It seems that you've been patiently; if not steadily.. working on this model. It's gotta' be tough in FL this time of year.. trying to paint. Can you dehumidify a room to paint in?
Re: Little Jumping Bean
Epoxy and dope have issues too. Wash with ammonia and water, use a toothbrush, then sand lightly. Superfill is an epoxy product, and will form the same waxy blush that any other epoxy will form.
Yes, water and balsa are not a good combination this close to finishing. I don't know how to work around it though.

Larry, is that Prowler the same profile Shug flies. He won Intermediate with it last October at Huntersville. A very capable plane, no matter what style of flying you prefer Good looking too.

Yeah, thats another thing I have to deal with .... the humidity around here.
I've got an extra test piece of balsa that was covered and doped the same as the plane. I'm going to see what happens with that first, before I put any paint on the plane. I've also got some retarder I can try .... a very proficient RC finisher at my field said to only use it mixed in on the last coat. If need be .... I've also got my wifes permission to apply the last coat in the air conditioning.
Or ..... I can just wait another 4+ weeks until the drier weather shows up around here.

Ya know .... I didn't even think of that. All of my fillets to this point have been simply epoxy and a healthy dose of micro-ballons. I've never had any problem with it .... but it is hard to work with. The Superfill was a dream ... it stayed put and cleaned up well. I have very little work to do on it, which is a nice change.
I'll have to let the wheels turn on this one ....

Hey Rusty --- Yes, it is the same plane as Shugs'. The kit was given to me quite a number of years ago. It was missing several pieces and for one reason or another I never put it together. Some bugs also got to the plans and instructions .... but I can read them. LOL!!
I really do look forward to flying this plane ..... never hear anything bad said about it .... and it is cool looking for a profile!!
Heres a couple pics I took .... I need to take some more. The wing is almost completed and I'm pretty pleased with the sheeting over the foam cores. I also took the time to make an integrated tip weight box. All I need to do is some sanding work on the flaps .... and the wing is done.

Aw man, you stole my color.
Hey, my Cadet is still waiting for some "racing" stickers. (Numbers etc). Anyone got any ideas?
Canopy, control horn and tail skid added since this picture. I'll get it finished some day

Re: Little Jumping Bean
I was thinking, down the road, that I would pick up a .049 Black Widow. I have a Golden Bee that will probably pull it around pretty good ... but the all black finish of the Black Widow will look nicer with the trim I have in mind.

Re: Little Jumping Bean
Pretty sweet Larrr! Yea.. a Black Widow will look nice! I really like the black and white trim accents, the way you did them with that color! The Golden Bee will look nice too though! Some (I have one) had larger venturi's than standard. The original was basically a Babe Bee with a larger stunt-vented tank. Later versions had an increased air-intake/venturi (.082").. and more than likely; a cylinder-porting upgrade. These were the predecessors of the Black Widow.. I believe.
Re: Little Jumping Bean
Sporty Looking color scheme, NICE !! It will look good no matter what's up front but... The BW would bee Sharpe . Eric

Re: Little Jumping Bean
Larry,
It looks really good. I like it!
You may already know, but the original had the firewall butted up to the leading edge which worked out pretty good (CG wise) with a Babe Bee on the nose and slightly nose heavy with the black widow.
With the way you have it now a Medallion would work really well and you won't have to add weight to balance.

Re: Little Jumping Bean
Thanks Cribbs .... I haven't bought an engine for this plane yet, and I do keep seeing Medallions around. I should take my Golden Bee II and mount it to see where the CG is.
Plenty of time yet .... and my wife already doesn't want me to fly it. She thinks it'll be too pretty by the time I'm done. But, I keep telling her that I don't build planes as hanger queens .... or buy engines to collect in boxes.
Run 'em and fly 'em I say .... !!

Re: Little Jumping Bean
Howdy folks ....
Couple questions for youse guys that have built and flown the 'Bean ....
1) Is the CG placement on the plans correct?, or is there a real-world CG?
2) What length lines did ya 'all go with? 42, 35, 18, 10?
Pictures of my finished model are forthcoming! Just sprayed the clear tonight ... the winds finally died down. Tomorrow, the engine should be here. Still a few weeks before it's maiden ... but the building is done ...
Thanks for your help on the couple questions ...

Re: Little Jumping Bean
Not sure how Brodak is doing the kit now. Mine had copied CG plans. I want to say 7/8" from the leading edge, but don't quote me on that.
A lot will depend on what engine you settled on.

Re: Little Jumping Bean
7/8" sounds right to me too, but I'll have a look at my brodak plans. Right in front of the front leadout is about right. When I find it on small planes, I always dig my fingernails in so I have a quick way to pick it up and check whenever I change anything. Sounds redneck, but the little indentions are invisible and makes it easy to check quickly.
Mine really flew well at first with a Black widow until I got tired of running out of gas before I was finished having fun, so I put a Medallion and a balloon on it. After re-building it into a twin tail-boom combat style ship, I used a Norvel .061. That's it in my avatar, the Refried Bean. It had a wider wing chord with added fixed flaps.

Re: Little Jumping Bean
Lighting isn't the greatest .... but I got excited and snapped a few pics of the Bean when I got home. The .049 Taipan Serpent was in the mailbox and on she went. She'll get broken in on another plane.
I did a quick check of the CG .... just in front of the leadouts .... and its just a tad-nose-heavy. It won't need much. I have no idea what it weights ... I don't have a scale accurate enough.
Little story about the old school 'sponsor' decals .... these are from the 1970's. My dad used to race RC nitro cars and he was into detail on his finishes. These are top quality .... always wanted to use them on something. I have 4 sheets .... three of the size you see, and 1 sheet about half the size. The ones I used are alittle larger than what I'd like, but the detail is excellent. I only had one that broke apart when I was applying it. There were several other sponsors I wanted to use, but didn't want to overdo it.
Interesting one on there .... the tiger ..... anyone remember what the slogan was, and the company? No, its not Tony the Tiger ...
The only parts of the plane that were finished with trim tape is the white strip on the leading edge .... and any red striping you see. The rest is all dope. The top clear is a couple light coats of Minwax Poly Clear rattle can.
I hope you like it ....
