Re: Lunch Time Laser'in
Today's lunch time project.
I have a good size flight box that I always bring with me but like to leave it back away from the runway so I made up a little "pit box" to keep everything out of the dirt and not have to walk back and forth. The handle looked like a cylinder so I decided to add a glow plug to the top. I think I will make another and do a bit more.
I wanted to keep it small and simple. About 6" square.

Wow. That looks awesome and is a great idea. Better than me filling my hands and pockets along with those of my helper, my father... Also, you must have one nice lunch hour.

And a good boss/company that you work for to allow you to play with their equipment. Lucky! But I also appreciate it as well.

Thanks! I was tried of everything ending up in the dirt or back and forth to the flight box.
I am the one that programs and runs this machine along with a cnc router and vinyl printer cutter among other things so I can use it any time I'm not running a job for work
Lots of toys to play with. Hoping for a larger laser at some point and a 3D printer

Thanks for the update. I can't build it yet anyways. Just wanted it for the Ringmaster flyathon in October.

Same here on the RM for the flyathon
Over the years I got used to Sig Mfg way of business, but I still wish they would climb into the 21st Century, update their horrid on line catalog/ordering website. Like I said, I am used to how they do it, but it is the worst of all the online sites I buy stuff from

There are plenty of other suppliers out there but looking at other sites they don't give you the option of selecting grade. I don't want to have too over buy to sort through for what as t I need.
I guess my biggest problem is I'm spoiled with Amazon prime. I try to get everything with prime shipping. Can't beat same day shipping with two day delivery.....
The order is still showing filled so hopefully it ships early next week. It won't take long to cut everything since I'm set up to run the job

Re: Lunch Time Laser'in
my slightly larger pit box. since i had the room on the sheet i stretched the box too about 6" x 7.5". been happy with the first one but a little more room wouldn't hurt. i keep the big box in the car and just keep the essentials in the pitbox.
oh... and i assembled it with CA

Wow. That looks sweet. But, I have to ask what the top of the box above the handle is for.

Well the original shape looked sorta like a. cox Cylinder to me so I added the glow plug. I actually clip my igniter clip to it

Re: Lunch Time Laser'in
Ok. That now makes sense. It also explains the lines going across from side to side, and the handle is the 'exhaust port'. Thanks for informing me. Now I must also retract my last statement saying that it looks sweet. I will now say that it is awesome, very ingenious, and that I never would have thought of anything like that.

Re: Lunch Time Laser'in
I've found if they have to back order one bit of an order they may delay the whole thing without notification. One phone call will stfraighten things out though. They really are nice folks, just, as Fred suggested, still stuck in the 20th century.rogermharris wrote:my $150 wood order is still showing "open" from sig. they charged my card monday or tuesday so i would hope to see it shipped shortly.duke.johnson wrote:Any update on the bipe kits? yea... i wood imagine that some of it possibly needs to bee cut or re-sawed. i will say that i have placed two orderes since then. not for nearly that much $$ but since i have placed maybee four orders with them this year that the response has gotten faster.

Thanks Eric!
I glued both pit boxes together with a medium ca. It's a real pricy one that we use at work. Holds just fine so far

Wow nice box man! now all it's missing is the Cox logo but copyright issues would probably be a concern.

Got plans
Roger, I still use a plastic tote from one of the big box hardware stores for my field box. But I would love to make one of your mini Cox boxes!
While you are laserin' at lunch, this looks like a project someone could do w/ a scrollsaw and a mini router. You wouldn't happen to have a way of expressing your design in a PDF file you could upload to the forum??
Please??
