How to know which cylinder I have
Hi friends, I have been reading about all the different numbered cylinders cox has produced and I was wondering if there are actual markings on them. I'm trying to find a #4 or #1.
Thanks for any help!

Re: How to know which cylinder I have
Hi Glen
Some do not have a mark, many do usually the 2, 4, 5, or 7, are stamped some where on the lower part of the cylinder- others are stamped inside the exhaust slit and very hard to see without a magnifier
on the left side of this page (and all others) is an INFO area with History, Instruction sheets, and Cylinder identification
Here is a link

Re: How to know which cylinder I have
Hey Glen I see you want ad over on the other forum
I suspect you know this but if not---- Bernie at Cox international has every thing you are seeking
http://coxengines.ca/cox-.049-tee-dee-cylinder-and-piston.html
They have the timing and top end shims and a whole host of other goodies
Matt at Ex Model Engines has a bunch of stuff for cox also
http://www.exmodelengines.com/home.php?cat=267
The original #4 TeeDee cylinder had 2 bypass and each had two boost ports...later Cox engineers decided that twin bypass with a single boost port made on each side more power....just a FYI
the twin boost ports were too symmetrical and interrupted good fuel charge to the top end...the off set single boost per side creates a sort of swirl, so they claim
Seems to make sense and my experimenting with original #4 and Bernie's Cylinder / Piston set on TeeDees and Black Widows bears this out

Re: How to know which cylinder I have
Glenn. If you check out the "Tach Race" link on the left, you will see that the engine I entered won it's class (mouse) using not much more than one of the reproduction Tee Dee cylinders from Cox International, so they work pretty good. With the results I got, I wouldn't bother with an original #4 if performance is what you're after.

Re: How to know which cylinder I have
Thanks Bob and Rod! I have been intrigued by the scale reed race and am starting to gather the stuff required to make a decent motor. I always liked the Space Hopper layout and finally found one to buy now I just need to make it competive!

Hmmm deja vu, I think I just posted in your thread on SH too. Well welcome to CEF, you found the hidden treasure and repository of Cox Knowledge!

I'm thinking of a Lancair 360. I looked at all the different warbirds but didn't really find anything original that had the features I wanted. The Lancair is really swoopy so it will be good!

Re: How to know which cylinder I have
We're still after some cylinder info, mostly for the other engine sizes. https://www.coxengineforum.com/h23-cylinder-identification
I'm still working on the history section, It'll be awhile before it's ready to be displayed. Been working on it in spare time. For now, I think I'll link it to the Wiki page.
