Thanks rusty!
Having fun for sure. I think I need to cut a machine gun to mount somewhere...
I need to get the other two finished up. Not even sure I have another bee to put on this one..
Now your talking - machine gun, struts, guy wires, profile pilot with a scarf. Decals, gotta have decals. How can your cat be so bored with such a beautiful Bipe inches away.
BTW, what can top did you get the cowl from? I think roddie/Mark/Kim used one from an aerosal spray of some sort.

You know.... I will add a pilot for sure and include him and possibly the machine gun.
I have some printable water slide decal sheets on order. Everything overseen doing has been stencil as I also have a vinyl printer/cuter at work.
Jack (the cat) took over my box of balsa parts. Hopefully he did not break anything. He's a special boy. Bottle fed from two days old. We have 8 others. Most were sick kittens that walked into the house and we nursed them back to health and had them fixed.
Ok back to business.... that cap is from a can of zep foamy window cleaner. It's available here at least at home depot. We use a bunch of it at work so will have to start saving the caps!! It's 2" inside diameter and the fuse was about 1.75" so I widened up the fuse for this one to 2" and cut a new fuse. Also a custom firewall and bulkhead to fit the cowl. more to come

Re: 1/2A stunt trainer design
Wow Rog! SUPER COOL!!! Anyone getting a kit can add a cowling. Just find an aerosol can cap that you like the looks of.. and measure the inside diameter. Rog's bipe's fuse is 1.75" tall. Split the difference and glue hardwood bearers top and bottom, to accept sm. short (#2) wood-screws and fashion stand-off tabs for some side-support. Once the cowl-mount is established.. you can measure the distance from the firewall to the center of the engine's cylinder to make the cut-out for it. I used 1" hole-saws to make both my cut-outs. If you measure/cut accurately, this leaves a 1/8" gap around the cylinder/glowplug.. and ample frontal-airflow around the prop drive-plate. It's not like a "cowled-in" engine.. there's plenty of cooling with an open back.
What did you use to make the cut-outs in your cowl Rog? They look really clean. Remember the qt. sz. plastic pop bottles that had a base to them? it was usually hot-glued on. It had a nice cowling shape already molded in.
Here's a photo.. In the foreground are two of those old 1qt. bottle-bases.. the orange one on the right still has the bottle's cut-off inside.. (hot-glued)
In the background are caps from the modern automatic air-fresheners (Airwick/Lysol/Febreeze) which have a more streamlined profile.. and are a standard aerosol cap diameter.

Roddie. It's sounds like I can learn you something and I am humbled to do so.
My one go too tool for so many things is a step drill bit. The cutting edge (flute) is straight so you don't get any tearing if you take your time in just about any material.

There are SO MANY common items that you can use to customize a model! Materials too.. You just need to use your imagination.. and do some testing with glues and finishing.
Re: 1/2A stunt trainer design
well i cut these out today... they are cut from 1/8" ply at the moment. i'm thinking 1/16" should be plenty but, wanted to cut them out to see what they look like.
they will be included in the kit

Don't mean to rain on anyone's parade. That may not be but a user option, Rusty. Snoopy is copyrighted and registered trademark, a good way to get a business in trouble without proper licensing rights.rogermharris wrote:and where should he sit rusty??RknRusty wrote:Don't forget Snoopy!

I could make a snoopy for myself. I'm not looking to make much on any of this stuff. Just figure if I'm going to take the time to redraw the plans to cut a kit out for myself then I will offer it to others. Helps me support my hobby. By selling three kits I can cut one out for myself at no additional cost beyond my time

Re: 1/2A stunt trainer design
Love the pilot, let's call him Jack. Heck, I love the whole concept.
I don't mean to cause you more work, but everybody should jump in on this. More work should translate to more $$'s if you need more, PM me. I too have been eyeing plastic containers all over the house.

My bosses name is jack. LOL!
I don't mind cutting more if anyone else is interest. Once the drawing and layout is done, it does not take much time to cut them out.
Bob, the cap I used is from Sep foamy window cleaner that I get from home depot. I am eyeing every plastic container and cap everywhere I got now. LOL!
