My son and I ventured to historic Winton Motor Raceway 300 km north towards the New South Wales border last weekend to watch some classic machines go through their paces.  Thought you might like to see some pictures.

It's easy to see where the classic tether car got it's shape with this one.

Plenty of bikes too.

We had pit passes too so could get a good close-up look. Sorry I have no pictures. The ones above aren't mine, but were official ones of the event. Some of those old bikes just sounded magic. We both had a ball.
Enjoy.
Rod.

Love the pictures Rod, especially 1, 3, and 5. Those are good times.

We go to Summit Point here In West Virginia. Once, I actually got to lead the intermission parade lap in my 1947 MGTC. My son was a way back in his 1960 MGA.

Rod, thanks for the pictures. Really enjoyed them. It's nice to go to car shows, but it's even better when you can watch them racing! What is the grey car in 3rd place behind the Camero SS?

Looks like you're going to be stuck enjoying the classic racers, as your country has banned the 2016 Ford Mustang, or at least it's "line lock" option

http://www.svtperformance.com/2015/05/14/news-2015-mustang-line-lock-banned/

lol! DAMMIT!

Chrysler Valiant made in Australia.

I remember Winton........Ran my TC and Healey there in the '80s.

Looks like a scene out of Mid Ohio only in Australia.

Vintage iron is a little slower, but it makes up for it with sound and grace. Hope you had a good time.

Thanks Gossie, you beat me to it.
Yes, Chrysler Australia had the Valiant line, like Plymouth in USA.  The one pictured was a game changer out here.  It's a Valiant Charger and was "home grown" Aussie. It ran a 265 Hemi six with triple sidedraft Weber carbs from the factory, plus 4 on the floor.  It held the distinction of being the fastest factory production car over the 1/4 mile, even beating the famed GTHO Ford Falcon 351 Cleveland.  He sat right on the Camaro's rear bumper in every race and almost took him on several occasions.  A real thrill for Aussie car enthusiasts.

Hey, I know it's off topic, but some of you obviously like old cars as well as model planes.  Here's a really nice clip I found of the race meet I went to.

Gossie and Rod, thanks for the video clips. You must have had a wonderful day watching all that vintage iron running on the track. Got a big chuckle out of the green truck all packed up like they're moving (at 2:28 )  Your Chrysler valiant is related only by name to the Plymouth Valiant or Dodge Darts I'm used to seeing up here. They definatly took the best of the two and mixed in some local engineering for your Aussie homebrew Street racer.

Great clip Rod........Just love the old ones and particularly racing them.

That loaded up old beast has been going to all the meets for years, and believe it or not it's roadworthy.

FWIW Rod, another VERY good classic meet is Phillip Island in March. Well worth going to and internationals usually arrive with some million dollar+ machinery and seriously race them.
PI is a beautiful long and flowing race track.......My 100/4 would pull close to 200k/120mph on the straight. They were the days. Very Happy

Rene.  Many of our Valiants used the same body shells as the US models.  Dodge Dart being the main one that comes to mind.  The ones pictures are Valiant Pacers with the dart body.  Look up Valiant VG on Wikipedia.  Different nose treatment but very similar.

I still remember being amazed as a kid seeing Dennis Weaver driving a Valiant in the movie Duel.  Pretty much a VF/VG Valiant 4 door.

We've had a classic motor racing event annually in my town since 1936 (except for the war years).  This year it was held on the weekend from Saturday, May 30th - just a week ago.  The difference is that ours is, and always has been, a genuine TT event.  I think that our weekend (Albany - http://www.albanyclassic.com/ ) and York's Flying Fifty ( http://www.speedwayandroadracehistory.com/york-classic.html ) are the only 2 TT events left in Oz.  We've had some lovely open wheelers in the past. One of Jack Brabham's own F1 winning cars raced here 2 years ago, along with 7 other veteran and vintage open wheelers, but alas, none this year.  However, a Ford GT40 was a pretty sight racing through our town streets, along with a bevy of Porches.

Great stuff you have and have had in WA. Thanks for the links.

My brother and another took their TCs to Albany a few years ago and had a ball.

I drove out to York from Perth back into the '90s when Briggs had the cars there. He had some great stuff, including Alan Jones F1 winning Williams and Bob Janes Lightweight E Type.
