Charybdis-a free-flight model
pronounced crib-dis.. I found this while helping search for info on the Cox powered tethered hovercraft thread The text references "Roto Riser" plans in a book by Ken Willard entitled "1/2A Projects". I'm willing to bet that Kim might have the book.. or at least heard of it.

Roddie, my club member Dan Banjock built one and we brought it to Brodak's 2 years ago. I would've liked to say last year as well but it took off. Even trying to give it a decent ground run. It went out of sight and was lost.

Between Scylla and Charibdis
It's an old saying, like between a rock and a hard place. Charybdis was a Greek mythological whirlpool monster in Homer. Ships had to pass through a straight that Scylla and Charibdis guarded on each side.
I had to look this up because I got a Cox .010 version of one of these in a hangar buy from a retired NASA engineer in CT.
The sight of this weird thing was enough to seal the deal for me - as it was, it came as quite a bargain now that .010's are easily going for between $100 and $150 dollars anywhere online.
It is a little daunting to think about winding this thing up, especially at my club. It's pretty threatening since it is FF - where will it land.
I'll post pics - I have the engine off at the moment.
