The Man from Uncle: "The Deadly Toys Affair" Empty The Man from Uncle: "The Deadly Toys Affair"

Post  Kim Sun May 31, 2015 11:08 pm

Managed to record this tonight.

When I watched this episode as a kid, I was highly ticked at the paucity of follow-up model airplane stuff after it's beginning teaser...

Off to Switzerland to rescue Professor Whatever and his slightly dorky, genius son from an expansive, secret school run by T.H.R.U.S.H.  The Professor arrives during a vaguely described model airplane activity out on the school's huge lawn.

T.H.R.U.S.H. decides to take out the Professor...all the better to more easily manipulate Genius Boy.  Rather than use a handy, perfect vantage point for a rifle shot, T.H.R.U.S.H. takes the more subtle tack of using a bomb-laden Wen Mac Pea Shooter, converted to radio or some other control.  This to fool Boy Genius into thinking his father's demise was caused by a typical model airplane accident.

Ilya arrives on his Bonnie just in time to interrupt the clueless Wen Mac Assassin, but gets knocked aside just long enough for the villain to launch the apparently pre-programmed model.

After a pass to rather easily terrify the the crowd below, the Pea Shooter singles out the Professor (who's apparently forgotten all about his dorky son), as he obligingly runs for cover into a nearby tent.

The Wen Mac control liner flys precisely through the tent's door, exploding itself and presumably taking out the Professor.

I'd comment on the rest, but it gets a little silly from here....

P.S. ALTHOUGH,  Angela Lansbury DOES manage to save the day by flying everyone away in a stolen Bell Ranger...

Ah, the Sixty's....

Awesome, man! I remember seeing that as a kid and didn't think it was too hot. My cousin had a Pea Shooter and he only let my dad fly it because it was so tricky. I thought a Taurus or King Cobra should have carried the bomb because the Pea Shooter was just too little.

"Gets a little silly from here." Ya think... Smile Saved the day, she wrote.

Always loved the W/M Pea Shooter. Want one, but they command premium prices on the net.

That's so funny. Illya Kuryakin fighting the man flailing a toy plane around.... a toy drone.

Chris...

Yeah, could'a made the fight scene a little more clumsy (if that's possible) !!  I never missed this show, and willingly suffered through all the goofy chitter-chatter and romance goop on the outside chance of catching a glimpse of any kind of flying machine...and it usually WAS just a glimpse...

Still watching to catch an episode of ' Alfred Hitchcock Presents' that has a guy starting and flying a Wen Mac "Cessna-ish" control liner.

There was also an episode of "Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color" that featured a trained falcon, escaped from it's owner, that takes on a bunch of R/C flyers. He takes one out, but on inspection of the models innards, discovers that there nothing very digestible among the servos and wires, and so, continues on his journey.

I guess I should have been more clear, a Top Flite Taurus or Sterling King Cobra, the R/C six footers! Of course he could've bonked Ilye Kuriakin on the head with those and knocked him out!

I find it funny that a guy dumps a Bonnie a few feet from the villian without being heard.

Triumphs are not known for their stealth technology...
