Many have done it, myself included.

It works well if followed exactly as written. Lot's of info to be found using the search function.

In my opinion some of the most important things are polish the crank, good piston to cylinder fit, finding the best compression for the nitro used and there must be no air leaks.
And I forgot, SPI at 12 thousands.

Yep, its a must read. I think piston fit is by far the most important and you're correct a polished and lightened crank are mandatory.

Where can I find info on what specifically makes a piston fit a cylinder well? I'm assuming all these parts including crank, piston, cylinder wall, hole in connecting rod, and it's connection to the crank could all use some fine polishing?

What do you find with SPI over .012?

About the piston to cylinder fit, Ken Cook gave some good advice in this thread:

I have used that method to a couple of cylinders since, and managed to get stuck pistons to turn over with a good compression.

There is another hop up document written by Hal Howard that goes into much detail that is in the files section of Marks .049 Collectors Group.
It is a MS Word doc that you can download, worth the read. I have the file, maybe it can be attached to a email if anyone wants to take look.
