Tossed in with an Enya .29 I found this morning on ebay.  Fury not Fuji.  K&B maybe?

K&B Sky Fury, this was also popular as a outboard engine along with the twin you show. Hopefully yours has good compression, most of the examples I've come across have been quite poor. I have magazines showing ads for the new K&B Allyn for 1956, some reading though made claims of 1955. K&B merged with Allyn in this period. I just came across this info last week searching for some Atwood reference. Ken

Here’s a Allyn Sea Fury from my collection for comparison.

Interesting vintage engine. Fury Twin Stack Allyn_10

As well as Tim Dannels “Cox Model Engines Handbook” another couple of very handy reference books are “American Model Engine Encyclopedia” also by Tim Dannels. A lot of excellent information in this book.

And if you are into early Czech engines, Atom, Frog, MVVS etc “Czech Model Engines” by Jiri Linka and Jan Kalka, which has text in both Czech and English, is also a handy reference. Both these co-authors have the book for sale on their respective websites but Jan Kalka was the cheaper of the two at US$25 including postage to New Zealand

As well as Cox engines I also like to collect high performance and racing engines, especially pylon 40’s so I’m hoping they do a follow-up of later Czech engines covering the MVVS GRR and GRRT 6.5cc (.40) Pylon engines in particular. I have three versions, which for clarity I call the mk1, 2 and 3 but there may well be more.
That's the trouble with collecting, it's hard to stop looking Tired w/ Coffee Read

Thanks all for your contributions.

I just read Peter Chinns 1955 article regarding this engine.  He mentions this "American engine" but does not say where it was made in the US.  Any Idea's?  Probably West Coast.

http://sceptreflight.net/Model%20Engine%20Tests/K&B%20Allyn%20Sky%20Fury%20Twin%20(2).html

Another article mentions that it came with a special glow plug with a "W" element something like what some Cox plugs were supplied with.  But the one on "my" model looks suspiciously like a replacement that Ken would not love.

Another fellow mentions that he found one at a garage sale for $1.00.  Another NIB was sold on the RC Groups classified for an undisclosed amount.  Last thing I want is to chase down another 1950's vintage engine brand, so this one will get a side by side A/F boil with the Enya .29 and become an example in my display case.

Now that's a great looking engine Eric.  Did you have to clean it up?  I'm worried about gaskets.

Mine, as with most of my purchases, looks like it was ridden hard and put away wet.  Aluminum case should clean up well in A/F.  Needle looks broken too.

Oh well, my focus was the MIJ bearer Enya .29.

Thanks for posting that info roddie, my search did not turn that up.

Thanks Bob, But the engine was this way when i got it i think i put some oil in the cyl and turned it over a few times , It is stiff again and the needle is stuck lol would like to run it someday ?! but would bee a pain to set up on a board to test , BUT if it ran good i would consider building a suitable plane for it whatever that is ?? Very Happy

My pleasure Bob. I believe that those two images were taken from Tim Dannels "The American Model Engine Encyclopedia" book that Davenz13 shows in his reply.

I know this is not the 'Wanted to Buy' section, but if any might have a spare needle valve for one of these pups, I got an orphan that could use it!

I think a early Wen-Mac would/might work, the threads are the same, but the needle taper is a little longer, if anything you could slap in a drill and file down first 1/8" of threads.

Yeah, may have to do that if one doesn't turn up. I'd tried a Wen Mac needle, but it let too much fuel pass.

Interesting vintage engine. Fury Twin Stack Empty Sky Fury twin

Post  706jim Sun Mar 11, 2018 11:43 am

I found one of these twins back in the early 1970's. I'm pretty sure it is 0.099 displacement. I had it installed on a twin rotor autogyro but the prop tips kept hitting the pavement while attempting ROG (you can't really hand launch an autogyro....) and I never had any luck getting that one to fly. Then I installed it on a Sterling Cessna 180 aircraft with the intentions of flying it free flight. That one wouldn't fly even with a hand launch. Like others, I was fooled by the exhaust note. I figured I was getting 19000 rpm on a nylon 7-4 prop when in actuality it was probably less than 10,000. So the engine, while cool looking was hardly a powerhouse compared to a decent 0.099.

I also have the outboard motor twin. Not sure of the displacement but probably 0.12. Before the time when electric starters were common, I had to make a home made recoil starter that engaged notches filed into the flywheel as the distance from the flywheel to the mounting bracket was so large that the usual rope pull was impractical. I managed to get that one running once on a boat but then lost a prop blade when the running engine touched the gunnel of the aluminum boat I was riding in. Believe it or not, the broken propeller blade ended up in the bottom of the aluminum boat and I still have it waiting to figure out how I might re attach it the the rest of the prop.

So that's my story.

The Allyn Fury arrived today, minus the needle. A moment of terror as the prop washer turned easy but no piston showed up in the exhaust ports. Found out the crank shaft is not splined but is a friction fit. Worked great with a prop attached. Good compression.

Interesting vintage engine. Fury Twin Stack Fury_e15

Nasty but a few seconds hot Simple Green cleaned it up fast but darkened the case.

I will have to make a new gasket for it as I damaged the original when I took it apart.

Cylinder insert came off with a Testor's wrench, but I lost compression. Added a new Cox gasket and got it back.

Still going to have to A/F boil it to get it really clean, but probably after I find a needle for it and run it.

I have tried several needles, the Cox needles are a definite no-go but maybe this straight shaft Wen will work. The flex shaft is not as good a fit.
