So, on the way home from the Bladder Grabber yesterday, I stopped by and bought two boxes of free flight stuff and found these.
My first two .020 Tee dee's and a .049 wasp, that I've been wanting.

Thanks guys. They are in good shape, my oldest son and I ran them last night. One of the .020's ran great, one has a stuck needle we need to play with (but would run if we would squirt fuel in the ventri), and the wasp's fuel system (tear dropper) was old and plugs. The wasp sounds COOL, like running Fox .35 instead of a .049. The tear dropper fuel system was very big for awhile in free flight (still a great system), for limiting your engine runs. You only get a few seconds of a engine run, depending on the class (3-20 seconds +/-)

I've been flying gliders for a couple years now, mostly ALES gliders. Last year I got bit by the free flight gliders after going to a contest to help a friend. I fell head over heals in love with it right there in the field. I'm going down to Oregon in a week and a half for a big contest. I also got bit by the RC slope glider bug last year too.

The boxes all this stuff came in are plywood with hinged lids and handles. They have stickers on them from the 1977 Danmark Worlds and other shipping labels. I find that to be very cool! I have the builds name on everything and it sounds like he still lives in Washington.

Duke, you rascal, looks like you got a real find.  Good on you.  Are you going to restore the planes?  With today's ultra-light radios, you could at least add rudder control with hardly any weight penalty. BTW, those timers are getting pretty pricey. I never had one, just D/T fuse.

Growing up, I flew free flight, not competitively, but because the only options were C/L and FF.  Sometimes I felt like a long distance runner chasing planes across fields, through weeds, over creeks.

I feel great getting the engines, I needed a wasp .049 for a free flight project and have never owned a .020 TD. It was great firing them up last night. I was a little bummed to look through the boxes and not find a complete glider. I think I would like to find the guy how built them, I hear he still lives in Washington. I could take the planes to him and figure out everything about them and what needs done to them. Then re-build/restore them and fly them in the same classes he did, in our local contests. I'd also like to hear the story behind the 1977 Worlds, and clear coat or cover and save the stickers and labels on the boxes. I'll use the boxes for my free flight gliders. I'm excited about this find and hope the old guys is cool about the plan and willing to talk.

Don't underestimate the fuel use of a Wasp on a eye dropper. The clubs Dakota flew away into the heavens at the Nats 2 years ago. No one would've believed that the old Wasp could've run that long. We never recovered the plane. I have another kit here and I will be starting it soon. Ken

Thanks Ken. I have not done a bunch of FF, yet, but have friends who have for decades. One has use eye droppers forever and can dial me in if I use them. I have fuel shut off timers too. We have a big FF contest in a week and a half. I'm going to enter a two meter towline glider called a "Junoir".
