Great job there. Looks real good. For a scratch build, you have a really nice design and hope she flys good for you.

Re: my new model
Does it fire with a drop of fuel on the piston? Is the head glowing, with a TD head?
They like lots of nitro.........25 to 30 per cent. Castor oil, not synth.
Try and buy the makings for fuel and mix your own with your parents or Col's help.
A good mix is 50% methanol, 25% castor oil, 25% nitro for general running.
A fast mix is 25% methanol, 25% castor, 50% nitro with 2 or 3 head gaskets. You might blow a plug if too lean.
Small prop. I use 5 X 3 on F/F models.

Re: my new model
Greg,
Kudos to you for designing and building your own model!
I have a couple suggestions that may alleviate some grief in the future. If at all possible move the tank closer to the engine, as much as possible so you can shorten the fuel line. The TD does not draw fuel really well and needs all the help it can get.
Also, move the bellcrank further into the wing so you can move the pushrod closer to the center of the elevator. You don't want uneven pushing/pulling forces applied to the elevator. It may twist and either come in or not act properly.

Re: my new model
That's good advice. I'd like to add, if you plan to hand launch it, you might want to try a 5x3 prop. It looks like you have a 5x4 on it now? That might not have enough acceleration to get it going if the plane is on the heavy side with the plywood construction. Good luck.Cribbs74 wrote:Greg,

Nicely done! I admire that you're not afraid to scratch build your own design.

Re: my new model
Very nice, I like the lines. Good solid design.
Your fuel system won't work as plumbed. There is too much of an "uphill" run from the outside of the circle to the engine. The engine will go lean and probably sag and die repeatedly. It may not be able to be set rich enough to compensate. You need to relocate the fuel tank inside the fuselage so it is in line with the engine. While there is about no space to work with if you can fasten it to the inboard side of the inside of the fuse, located at the correct height it will probably work pretty good.
Since the wing is removable put an access hole in so it is covered by the wing!
Phil

Also, the tank looks fairly large. If you fill it that puppy will keep flying 'til you drop. A smaller tank might fit inside the fuselage better, as Phil recommends.

I don't think they have any fuel with Castor apart from FIA blend, which has no nitro, but they have all the components to make up whatever blend you want, and I'm sure they would be willing to custom blend some. You really need to be able to pick it up, but they are able to deliver around the region, so you may be close enough. We had a family holiday up that way a couple of years ago and I came home with a 5Lt. bottle of Nitro and a 5Lt. bottle of castor oil in the car for the trip home. I thought later that the nitro may have been illegal going through the road tunnels under Sydney on the way home.

Re: my new model
Best by far to purchase the makings for fuel and mix your own.
Store in a bottle with a metal screw to and be sure to mark each bottle with exactly what's in it.
Store the makings and the product to be used in a cool dark place.
I have several brews etc. for both glo and diesel engines stored in a "frigee" box out of the way in the garage.
We are very lucky in Australia to still be able to purchase all the makings to make fuel for our fabulous hobby.
