I have to admit, if i was a kid with a skate and an engine, that skate would have been flying through the old Goodyear store parking lot. I didn't know anything about tether cars when I was a kid...

Hmmm...  Seems like it could be done a little lighter with some PVC rectangular tube.  I DO have a spare set of wheels for my Tamiya Cricket, which are pretty much direct replacements for the Cox Sandblaster.  Maybe I'll have to make something up.  Perhaps an unofficial 2016 CEF Home Brew Cox Tether Car Competition?

Well, keeping with the "unofficial" theme, I suggest we go with the International Chinese Downhill rules.

Guys: I think this "Thing" has you all beat. There is a word for it, but I can't say it here because this is a family program. So have a laugh at someone else's expense.  As seen on our favorite ebay.

Prop is fine, less complicated and a great source for creativity!! What will be the next step? Rules?

BTW what circle diameter is needed for an 049 driven vehicle? Do instructions of f.i. Prop Rod say anything about it?

How bout 8' radius circle and Cox .049 engine. One of the problems with TD is finding prop cause they won't run backwards. There are reverse cranks around.

Popcorn Popcorn Popcorn OK I am in if we can get things rolling and some one to lead the way . I made a bee powered wire thingy as a kid my uncle told me they use to make but it just went and went an went , it was flimsy so starting the bee was a trick but was only wire wrapped with no solider. I got a prop rod but was discouraged when I found out it had more glue on it than screws Crying or Very sad , the mount is broken and someone glued the [bleep] out of it !! I will have to make a balsa insert to put in it with a ply. mount for the engine not pretty but I just got it to run anyway . Eric Rolling Eyes

Crankbndr: if they won't run backwards why did Cox make a spring starter to start them backwards? And yes you will need a different prop. My shrike has a starter spring the winds to the left and starts CW which is backwards. So did the Prop Rod and Water Wizard.  Two Cents
Or are you talking specifically about the TeeDee? And yes there are reverse crankshafts around. Cal-Dan or whatever name he is using on eBay today has several for about $10.00 plus shipping. TD crankshaft LH. Sorry about the misunderstanding.   Two Cents  Two Cents

Ah yes! The long lost Cox Skate Prototype Empty suggestions rules

Post  OVERLORD Wed Sep 23, 2015 2:48 pm

I've been thinking about some suggestions for rules or guidelines for the contest. :

- Radius of 8' or 2,44m from centrepoint to the mounting points on the car body or chassis.

- Length of the car fixed at 12" or 30 cm (length of the Shrike ) from one end of body/chassis to the prop washer. ( Or would it be better to fix a wheelbase?)

- Car must be of the full body type and not a profile or a flat plank. The car can have a chassis with body or have a monocoque construction.

- Wheel track is free, the car must have 4 wheels touching the ground. wheels can be of different diameter front / back.

- Engine must be a Cox 049 tanked reed engine, mounted forward, in the middle or at rear; pusher or puller, pointing forward or backwards. Propeller choice is free.

These are just ideas. Other suggestions or modifications if necessary are welcome.

What are we aiming for? 10 laps / fastest time? Number of laps with fixed amount of fuel? what about fuel to use? TD class? End date?

I found some Shrike and Prop Rod video's on Utube:

Nice job OVERLORD! I like everything but think a minimum car length would be good? 11" or 12" minimum? Beer Cheers
I like timed laps for speed also.

The "box" must be defined better. What is the minimum maximum dimension in all directions. (yes I think I said that right) Take a prop rod and measure it, that probably is a good choice.

So
chassis wheel base and width
body width and height

open vs closed wheels? Pants? Drive tire(s)?

*SIGH*

Y'all are too detailed for l'il ole me. I was thinking more along the lines of: Build whatever you want, with whatever you want, and using whatever engine you want. Only rule is that you post a video of what you built running.
