I don't have any Ringmasters in my hangar .... but some encouragement from Mr. Jim Carter swindled me into making the 2-hour trip to Titusville. Armed with a chair and my camera ... I anticipated alot of pictures, and 'maybe' 1-2 flights.  (Jim said he had one for me to fly.)

2 circles going all day long yielded quite a few flights ....  myself putting up 12 ... Hahaha. I didn't get to venture much to the other circle which was really busy ... but the one I was on had over 30 flights.

Great group of guys that like to have fun .... just my kind of people.  Awesome time, and well worth the trip.  Thank you very much Jim and company .... we'll be seeing you soon!

Ah, shirt sleeve weather and good times.

I love all the planes but that triple decker is special. Do you remember the power? Looks like an OS or Enya .19/.29.

Bob

That Triple decker was sporting a 60-sized engine .... believe it was an OS engine. I got to fly it once .... flew great but REALLY heavy on the lines!! I had my Wheaties tho ... Smile

Wow, I guess. Looks smaller than it is. Lot's of drag there needing major power.

Thanks - Bob

Nice outing Larry! Wish I could have been there. Did you get any other info on the tripe? If not for mention of the .60 engine.. I was thinking it may have been built from an S-1 Ringmaster fuse and tail-feathers. Even the wings seem to have a Ring-shape to them. Is it one of Jim's models?

Laughing Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed I'm feeling pretty stupid.. no.. "disconnected".. right now. No excuses now after reading the "NEWS!!" post; not to try to fly this old girl.

It's the closest Ring I have, to being flight-ready. Fuel would be an issue though.. I only have 1/2A fuel. My Fox.15 wouldn't appreciate that. Maybe it would be ok.. being Sig fuel with castor, if I ran it rich on the needle? I have plenty of old woodies in the sizes made for that engine too.

Hurricane Joaquin really threw a curve-ball into the upper U.S. Eastern Seaboard's weather. I wanted to paint.. Uhh Uhh... I haven't heard from our members in the coastal states, on how they've faired. We got a lot of (badly needed) rain here which was already falling when Joaquin was first forecasted. Here in Rhode Island, it turned very quickly from a warm/dry Summer, to a cold/damp Fall.

Yes, the triplane is Jim's... and don't really know anything about it. Jim is a member here ... as soon as he sees this thread I'm sure he'll respond.

Hi Roddie!  Howdy Larry!  Man you did a wonderful job with the photos!  I really like the one with Joe helping his daughter 'cauz that's what this hobby is all about, isn't it .... family and good memories!!  Roddie, the Triplane was scratchbuilt from Pat King's plans (Brotherhood of the Ring) that were given to me by G-Man (also of the Brotherhood of the Ring).  The plans as I received them appeared to require that the wings and struts be glued in place but I modified the model during the build to allow the full removal of all three wings and struts for easier transport or storage. Ringmasters in Titusville, FL 07-05-10

For the longest time during the build, I wasn't sure what to use for power but I finally settled on making the initial test flights using my OS 60 with a 12x6 prop thinking I could/would change to even more power depending upon the results.  My initial flight was with 2 ounces of fuel in the tank and the engine running very, very rich thinking it wouldn't climb very high or very fast especially if it was tail heavy.  To my amazement and joy, it lifted off just as pretty as you please and with a decent pull, also, the C.G. felt good.  The second flight was again with 2 ounces of fuel but this time I leaned the motor about 1/4 turn off peak rpm and it's been there ever since!  A couple of days before the fly-a-thon, I decided to take a 3 ounce fishing sinker and hammer it into a shape that would allow me to cut into the covering and glue it into the bottom of the wingtip of the top outboard wing.  This was done to make sure it stayed flat and turning outboard when doing wingovers as I have no offset in the rudder or the engine as per the plans.  I have no complaints with the results!!  Well, I guess that about explains all there is unless you choose to build one and need more specific information.  Take care!
