So far all I got going is an 3.5" aluminum tube, engine and wheels.

For some reason the photo makes the body look shorter than it is.

How about a ducted fan setup, since you already have the duct as a part of the chassis Smoking

That was my first thought also, Ducted Fan...also, somewhere Back in time I had a Co2 powered racer. Blew threw a whole bunch of Co2 cartridges, that I could have used in my BB gun.  Could try that again, or some of those Estes rocket motors!

Ducted fan would be cool, I don't know much about them. Could maybe stuff a battery fan in the tube.
I wanted to run it with a Cox engine though. They still sell ramjets don't they?

Oh.. the wheels are turning! I'm thinking you could cross-slot the bottom of the tube using a miter-saw.. for the axles to fit up into. If it's a tether car, figure out the radius you'll be running.. and angle the slots; so that the axles track into the circle. Secure the axles with legs made from sheet metal strips.. that will follow the body-tube's contour, when screwed-on vertically. The body-tube will support the axle from fore/aft movement.. so the legs need only level the axles, establish their height and hold them captive from dropping out the bottom. You could easily trick this approach out.. by slotting the sheet metal.. where it wraps around the tube.. allowing you to set body-camber and lean the car into the circle.

As for ducted-fans.. you can still find these.. I believe it's a Kress unit. Search Kress Axiflow RK-049.

run what you brung - The CEF "run what you brung" prop rod build Kress_10

I don't know if that duct-tube comes with this kit shown below.

run what you brung - The CEF "run what you brung" prop rod build Axiflo11
run what you brung - The CEF "run what you brung" prop rod build Kress_11

I see the "Midwest" name on this kit.. but I remember when Kress had their ads for this design in the model airplane magazines.. years ago. I wanted one.

Thanks Roddie, I got one for ya. I need to get symmetrical lines length ways on the tube every 90 degrees for top, bottom and the sides.
If the first line has any twist in it all the others will be off. Huh...

These are manufactured anymore that I know of. I would dearly love to see an exploded view of one of these and maybe the install instruction posted.

You know, for educational purposes only, of course!

My first attempt at building a chassis to carry the tube was a big fail, it is not near rigid enough. The aluminum chassis on the Cox Prop Rod is very rigid, strong.
Back to the drawing board with heavier angle and plate. I started out thinking of TD .049 power, then thought it too heavy and maybe an .09 would better.
Then I thought if an .09 is good a TD .15 would be great, I'm running off the rails here. lol!

Wow,  that went for less than what the engine is worth by itself!!  Had to be won by a sniper as the bid came in 11 seconds before the close of the auction, and only .50 more than your bid. I looked and looked at it on my watch list. Decided it was a cool piece, but I really didn't need something else taking up shelf space (darn common sense takin over). Sorry you didn't win. Sad

After much cutting, fileing, sanding, filling, pop riveting, drilling and a trip to the eye doctor ( table saw shot a tiny piece of aluminum into my eye even with safety glasses on) I have a rolling chassis.
Going to fill in and shape the sides with balsa and mount a TD .15 and the vertical stab in the tail somehow. The fuel tank I haven't figured out yet, it needs to be small, mounted in front of the engine
and part of vert. stab.

Safety First! Even with safety goggles you got stuff in your eye, aluminum too. Man,  I use to use pencil magnets to remove "Muffler Dust" from my eyes after working on cars exhaust system, that would not work with aluminum...Owch!
