I'm in trouble...

I'm in trouble...
HobbyKing moved their USA West warehouse from Washington State to Oregon a few months ago. I just found out it's about 10 miles from my house. If they start doing walk-in sales, I'm NEVER going to get to retire....

Mark: If they do have walk-in sales will you buy stuff for me? please? Their shipping rates are 2X the normal USPS rates.

Their website said they did will-call instead of shipping... I don't have a clue how that works since Ohio is nowhere near their warehouses.

I'm pretty sure that means you can go there to pick-up your order. That will save you a LOT of $$ on hobby stuff!

That what I expected. Still, not very close to the warehouse for it to matter...

Should be an interesting experiment here. I ordered something from them on Thursday evening, not knowing where they were. I chose the cheapest shipping method, which is UPS. The UPS depot is right there near the warehouse, and it's also the depot that packages for my neighborhood deliver from. In theory, I should get my package in no time. Let's see how long it takes to get to my door.

Re: I'm in trouble...
This is a bit of a warning to Rod. I got a email from HobbyKing about their sale two days ago. I thought, what harm can it do to have a look. Then I spotted the 1200mm Avios Hawher Sea Fury with all electrics minus battery and R/C unit at a sale price of US$90 with free shipping from their Aussie warehouse. Next minute, with a mind of it's own, my finger had hit the buy now button and the receipt was printing. That website is a very dangerous place for perusing.

Did you get a tracking number? If so, you could find out if your parcel shipped from that location. What if the item(s) you ordered wasn't in stock there? I hope shipping wasn't much.. haha.. because as I'm sure you know.. if it was in stock there; a 20mi. round-trip by car would have cost you less than $5.00 in fuel.. even if you had to borrow you neighbor's 68 Cadillac. Gasoline here in Rhode Island was averaging $2.11/gal. Of course; it went up a few cents because we just had one the busiest commuting holidays of the year.

Walk-in, no run.....if they are only 10 miles away, go get a job there! Part time, weekends, 3rd shift....whatever it takes to get the employee discount, or first chance on the scratch and dent stuff for real cheep!
If you're not going to retire, might as well work someplace you enjoy working!
Please let know how fast you get your order.

Re: I'm in trouble...
Psyched for you Mark! A hobby warehouse within 10 miles.. I'm excited.. because I've seen what you can do with limited resources. I searched Hobby King for building-stock/balsa wood but ended up in wood propellers.. Do they stock balsa and birch-plywood?
Re: I'm in trouble...
They do have some control-line stuff. The Blackhawk "Apocalypse" caught my eye. (not trying to influence you.. ) .15 to.35 size glow engine, 34" span, stunt model.

Re: I'm in trouble...
A stick with an engine on it! My kind of trainer, that you can take to a contest. And win. So long as you don't go to sleep in a wingover No wide side profile to catch unpredictable spinning thermal winds when you're straight overhead. Looks like a perfect stunt trainer, a prettified Ukey. Except it obviously has a wing cutout through the fuselage. I have a set of foam wings I could use, with the only holes in the fuse beingfor a pair of dowels. Again like the Ukey.
Sorry, the Ukster is just on my mind since I have a busted one. For those that don't already know, the Ukey fuselage is a solid pine board. Low profile like the Apocalypse.

I'm yet to indulge in a Hobbyking major purchase. My self control is heavily influenced by my light wallet. (no dough!)
Unfortunately the Aussie warehouse rarely has what I want. I regularly check to see if the Blackhawk Phantom is on sale with free shipping 'cos that's probably about the only wany I can afford one.

Rod: Free shipping is a little deceiving. Free for any single item over $100.00. That's a lotta dough for 1 plane, car, engine or whatever. even for a group of items. I very seldom spend over $100.00 for a car, controller, spare parts and LiPo battery. Last time the total was at $91.00. Oops did I say that out loud. Please don't reveal that to my wife. It was for a birthday present for my grandson, and his brother, and me. And spare parts.
