That's neat, only problem (at least with me) is, "How often and where would I use a spot welder?"

That was cool
Glad I don't need one
However I do need to make me a new setup for foam cutting as my kit loaned out never came back...

George: Well, if your only tool is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
Rusty: thanks for the link, looks like a few things I could do with my collection of stuff. Now I can tell my wife, it's not junk, it's a spot welder, I just need to assemble it.
Go to Outerzone...look up sheetmetal Susie. ( never mind...she's aluminum, )
Fred's right, a foam cutter would be more useful.

Really?Marleysky wrote:George: Well, if your only tool is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
I dunno. I've overhauled a couple car motors, replaced clutches, done body work, painted 7 or 8 cars, done brazing with my Weller O2-Mapp Gas (small bottle acetylene) torch set up, pop riveting. Do all my motorcycle work. Got special tools I've made to avoid spending boo koo bucks on OEM.
Jest don't have a practical use for a spot welder, I'm afraid.

True, it is big, but it brought me visions of a small version that I could attach... stuff with Lol I don't know, maybe I'd just play with it, sticking stuff together. I'd have to do some research to make a small one since I have no idea of the proper current and voltage to apply to all that stuff I'd be welding together.
Rusty... stuffed full of useless but fun ideas

Looks like an electrocution just waiting to happen. Electrons can be dangerous in the wrong hands.

Ummmmm.... No.
37 years as an electrical worker makes me shudder at the thought of people looking at this and trying to build their own.

Just like all things in life, some have it and some don't. If one has trouble unscrewing and replacing light bulbs, then may be they shouldn't do it. Here's an interesting situation:batjac wrote:Ummmmm.... No. 37 years as an electrical worker makes me shudder at the thought of people looking at this and trying to build their own. Positive battery terminal is off to the left out of the picture. I removed electrical tape and high voltage insulating tape on those big splices, just to figure out what someone was trying to do under those huge lumps embedded in the cable. Negative cable, odd but sound, I just neatly rewrapped with high voltage insulating tape and electrical tape to clean it up. Bought a new right fit cable to replace the positive.
I gathered that some farm hand was handy with the large crimp tool and probably distribution electrical work, but not knowledgeable about low voltage work.

Re: Check out this home made spot welder.
Electricity scares me. I have a huge respect for it. My younger brother arc-welds pretty frequently. He learned from a friend "Spike" who had a business building wrought-iron gates/fences. It looks easy.. when you're watching someone weld who's experienced with their equipment. I did some welding awhile back.. when I plugged in a defective extension cord-set. It's 3-outlet receptacle was a molded in such a way, as to allow one of the grounding-sleeves to be pushed through into a hot wire on the opposite side. It caught fire in my hands.. and didn't trip the breaker on the circuit. It was at band rehearsal. You never saw three old guys move so fast... It didn't stop arcing until we unplugged it from the wall outlet.
