Post a picture, plant a seed and watch it grow.

That's what Mark did several months ago when he showed a picture of one of his display cases filled to the brim of mostly Cox  stuff.  I thought, that's really neat, maybe one day I will find a similiar case.  And I did, bought at a local auction for dollars way below it's real value.  Half a bottle of Windex later I really had something.

Sooo I added the contents of the smaller curio cabinet, a few models from the loft.....

The Mark Boesen effect Displa11

The Mark Boesen effect Displa12

and, it being on sliders moved things around a bit.

I'm gonna need a bigger case. Smile

It's gorgeous!

If you get in any trouble for spending too much time arranging, oiling and dusting, Mark will probably deny any association with such a thing, Lol.

Nicely done, I like the combo of planes and engines! I also noticed you added the "scooter" feet to be able to move it, good move.

Thanks Mark, Looks like you like it twice as much as anyone else. Smile The sliders do come in handy as I'm always tweaking or adding something.

I would like to add a couple of drawers in the front. That would require a lot of work though, bracing etc.. Maybe a cavity in the back would work, so much useless space under there. Also no provisions for lighting. I'm adding a couple of thin flourscents if I can find them.

Put in a little color in the form of McCoy Red Heads.

The Mark Boesen effect Displa14

Got a bunch of Cox .049's to stick in there as well, but I have to mount them on those plastic stands first as they tend to topple over. Smile

Way to much information Mark.  Reading  Smile Smile

Funny, double posts always happen on my PM's too, both mine and the responders.  Curious.

Greg,  maybe the glass is bullet proof, I believe it came from a jewelry store, bomb proof.. I dunno. Smile.  It is a big one, 70 inches, but it filled up fast.  I wonder how the real collectors with large collections cope.  Mark and others have the good stuff, most of mine is quite common and well used.  I tend to buy the beat to death cheap stuff and try to restore it.  Here's my latest example.

The Mark Boesen effect Enya_210

The Mark Boesen effect Enya_211

An old sand cast Enya .29 made in the early fifties.  The four Enya brothers turned these early engines out one at a time.  Sand casting is notoriously inaccurate.  Notice how the bearers are not on the same plane or even the same thickness.

This one is missing the crank shaft, hopefully I can find a replacement or adapt another shaft to fit.

Most of my stuff were basket cases, sometimes I'd get lucky and snipe a really nice piece, cause the auction time was weird and or photo/decription was poor. However sometimes the photos are bad on purpose, so u got to be careful.

The MBE grows. I need another case. Smile

The Mark Boesen effect Displa11

I had to kick out my Cox/Testors model cars and move the airplanes to the roof to get space for the new additions. Not all Enya's, some Fuji's, Cox, OS, and Rogers ignitions too.

Had to build an Enya "Tree" to get more inside case room.

The Mark Boesen effect Displa12

But this started because I was looking for a post where someone asked about the dimensions of the plastic mounts. I can't find that post but they are listed here somewhere above.

They just don't work well for Cox engines but for Spitzy's too. I just cleaned this one up.

Bob, some time ago, I brought up Cox slot cars.. and Mark commented about his slot car collection. I tried to find the thread.. because I think he posted some cool pics.. and I work with a guy who collects the old Aurora T-jets. He invited me over for a race last night.. because he knew that I had a couple Aurora T-jet/AFX cars. He showed me some of his 1000-car collection. He has lighted "Zippo" cigarette lighter and "Timex" watch display cabinets that he gutted.. and built his own clear acrylic shelves to display some of the cars. His "runners" he kept in the trays that came with Lesney Matchbox Series carry-cases. They hold 12 cars/ea. and he had at least a dozen over near the track. It was a very cool mancave.

I'd like to try diorama's.. take a model.. and put it in a setting. It might be a single airplane hanging from the ceiling in a corner with a blue-sky with clouds mural painted behind.. or parked in front of a 3-d hangar background on a corner table? Maybe engines could be displayed on racks in a miniature warehouse.. or machine-shop? I fell in love with this cox diorama photo that appeared on their 1991 catalog.. (photo courtesy of "Mark Boesen"!)

What a wonderful picture/cover roddie.  Complete right down to the vice on the workbench.  The plumbed air compressor really caught my eye along with the phone on the wall and the fire extinguisher.  I would guess that the headless engine is out of the Cox racer and the tool cabinet and cart are right out of the Craftsman's catalog.  Marvelous.

I used to build HO gauge layouts many years ago, lot’s of wire mesh, newspapers and plaster.  Bridges, streams etc.  I modeled Boston and Maine.  Layouts are long gone but I still have the B&M loco’s and rolling stock.

Good eye Jason, Cox related we would expect no less...Smile  Yes, that’s good old number 72.  It came with a Cox pen like others tend to show off here.  I’m wearing the pen out, not so the Purple Python.

Lot’s of new minty Enya’s in there along with several “rare” examples.  But my true calling is taking a run of the mill beat to death Enya and restoring it to like new condition.  It truth, most of those are just barely broken in and I get to enjoy the benefits.

Got this one coming. Yummy.

Spitzy's and their cousins the Royal Spitfires are funny Eric. Some have little compression, some a lot but they seem to run equally well. I dunno.

The one pictured above had good compression before I ran some Remoil through it, removed the glow plug, sprayed some in there, some in the exhaust ports and some down the venturi and cranked her over many times then blew it out with compressed air. Now it has little compression probably because it cleaned the varnish off the cylinder wall. But, I bet that it wil still run like a champ. I have had great luck with these little guys.

I find it an effective way to clean a engine that is not to gummed up. This way you don't have to replace case gaskets that are difficult to find. Sometimes the less intrusive way to clean is the best way. Remoil and a stiff toothbrush on the exterior works wonders.

I bought my first can of Remoil a few months ago and found it works great for stuck engines.
A good soaking in Remoil and heat from a halogen light have been freeing up my engines.
I love the stuff, o yea, it good on guns too!

Aloha CEF members,
The pictures below shows my small collection of Cox engines mostly from e-bay.  My wife won't let me display my engines in a display case so they are mostly stored in these jewelry cases. The cases contain elastic bands that can hold the cylinders of the engines.  My original engines are stored separately. Sorry for the upside down photo. The Mark Boesen effect 01110

Lookin' good Bob! I also have a soft spot for the Enyas as well, an Enya .29 was my first "big" R/C engine. powering a Kadet Jr. and later a Kadet Mk. I

I think a shadow box for the 1/2a's would be neat mounted on the wall, the jewelry box looks good, great idea.

Great thread, it's fun to see different collections...lol, even though title is a little suspect!

Wow, CA and Mark colorful Cox displays.  Cox always had a wide variety of products for sale, they must have had quite a design and engineering staff.  Must have been an interesting place to work.  I always enjoyed the dumpster diving stories posted here from locals there at the time.  It must have been exciting to find tossed away seconds and experimentals.

Cox collectors probably out number other model engine collectors by a wide margine.  I just lost out on this "mega rare" first gen Enya Marine engine last night.  It only had four bidders and went for a paultry $217.49.  I might have been more aggressive in bidding but it's out of Australia and ended at three in the morning while I was cutting ZZZZZ's.

Check it out.  Notice the unique way the water jacket is integrated into the design.  I have a NIB standard version of this very engine.
