Re: How's the weather?
Hi 1975 control line guy,
I use windfinder for planning, find it very accurate around the erratic lake affect weather around here:
https://www.windfinder.com/?utm_source=windfinder.com&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=redirect#3/31.5785/-45.5273/spot
I fly mostly every good dawn as the sun comes up. Rare calm evenings are nice too.
Ken,
I miss the good old CL days. 2hr drive for a field and now too hard to get nitro/fuel. Miss it.
I am flying 250g/7oz RC legally here. In parks/school yards we flew Cox engines decades ago.
My CL 1/2A Cox Black Widow powered undefeated 'Piranna' is 6oz.
I am hoping for better days.
Bob,
Sparrows can peck through 1/8in of ice...
Fun to watch...
Take care my Friends,
Have fun,
Dave

Funny that you mentioned that as I saw one doing just that shortly after I posted.
Warmed all the way up to a current 25 degrees. Still, I got a little tractor time in pulling out sticker bushes which somewho find skin through a couple layers of clothing. Cold weather, you don't even feel it until you pull the stickers out later.

Re: How's the weather?
I sourced a birdbath heater last year and it was nice to see the birds and critters come to it. I noticed after putting it into service this season; water was creeping-up the power-wire and over the rim of the bowl.. drip.. drip.. drip.... Could it be Magic? Cohesion perhaps? I must intervene...
I raided my stock of rubber grommets.. for one having an "ID" the approximate diameter of the power-wire...
No more dripping when I fill it to the brim. The little birds won't drink when the water level drops in the bowl. They're not the only ones who drink though.. I top-off sometimes more than once a day.
Early a.m. when it's cold enough.. I've seen steam coming off the surface.

Re: How's the weather?
Here oddly, it is 55°F (13°C). It dips below freezing at night, but not like the winter some 6 or 7 years ago, where we had a blizzard dump dry wind blown snow that left about a foot and half (500 mm) on the ground with snow Tee Pee'ing at a 45° angle to the top of our 6 foot high (1800 mm) backyard fences. Nor, the period a decade ago, where we had late Winter temperatures were around -8°F ( -22°C) for 1st week in February.rsv1cox wrote:Funny that you mentioned that as I saw one doing just that shortly after I posted. We used to call that weather.
At least Bob and rest, we haven't had to break out our thermal snow boots yet.

Re: How's the weather?
55 degrees and practically no wind wind today…. So the home brew foamy went to fly during our trip to town…. Great little practice plane ……Direct drive motor lets it go at a pretty good clip….It and the transmitter fits behind the seat of my two door pickup truck…. Still room for the groceries and my wife after flying in the city park for awhile …..
Nice save on the in flight emergency Ken…. I would like to have seen that!

What a neat little airplane Robert. Mini rocket in the air. That thing is fast.
We are in for it all week Eric. Cold, blusterly, I'm not looking forward to it. Only 120 more days of this stuff here in the mid-atlantic.

Re: How's the weather?
Hi All,
Nice building weather here NW end of Lake Ontario, Canada.
Just too windy to even think about flying.
I can handle/dress for the cool/cold. Cannot fly in strong gusty winds.
The 'Lake Effect' snow here is amazing. Depends which way the wind blows.
The Great Lakes here are the warmest they have ever been. (Fact)
Interesting upcoming winter here...
Hi, rdw777,
Nice video. My plane is very close to yours.
No video, but I hope you like this story:
Mid Summer, I googled a patch of land 10km away.
I charged up my e-bike and plane and got there just as dawn was breaking.
Dead calm. It was a huge Dog Park. (6X a Football field)
A car pulled up.
'Roxy' the friendly Golden Lab bounded out to meet me.
His owners were just as nice.
I took off, as they let Roxy in to the fenced off dog area.
My 15 min timer was set.
Within 30 seconds, Roxy loved my plane.
I went on Hi Rates an did a 'Wounded Bird' flight.
I learned dogs are able to jump almost 20ft !
It was hilarious !
Timer went off, I climbed out.
Roxy got called in by his owners.
I landed.
Roxy got to sniff my plane after that...
Was,
Not even on my Bucket List !
Take care,
Have Fun,
Dave

Re: How's the weather?
Neat story on the dog in the park Dave ….I have, and you probably have too, Birds to chase after your plane…. Barn Swallows and Martins especially…..I had a pair of hawks try to get one if my ornithopters after it landed and still flopping around….. Thinking back I should have let them have it…. Would have made a better video LOL!!!
I like the passengers in Kimie Airways Kim…. They must trust your piloting…. They looked happy the whole time
We get a little snow in West Texas and not very often but sometimes a good’un …..Photos from
Jan 1st, 2021….One photo shows the top of a yard stick in one of the drifts behind the house ….

X2 on that. Lab's great dogs. Very adaptible.
I did not get that snow Eric, but I know that it's coming.
20's here today. Wood stove heating up the cabin. Replacing older half lit rope lights with new. Costco item.

Re: How's the weather?
I envy you guys in North America (Canada included) for your genuine seasonal weather... we in Central Europe seem to have lost our weather-identity...from October till March this is a neither autumn nor winter kind of thing with no snow or freezing temperatures, only sleet and rain and overcast sky and short sunshine hours, dirty roads drenched in mud...Santa Clause is dragging to town...good ole Charles Dickens or Edgar Allan Poe would be pretty well inspired to write another dark novel after walking the streets here.

Lynne and I recently watched a streaming television series on the Charles Dickens writings called "Dickensian" (link) which I would highly recommend. There are 20 episodes in the series.
We got our first snow of the season which started early this morning.. through around 9:30 a.m. A wet snow of about 1-2 inches. Temperature as I type this is 37 degrees F.

Old world charm Andras.............
My picture (above) over the deck table to the left.........Mark and I spent over two hours there in 26 degree weather with wind clearing more land. Chilly you bet with the "wind chill factor" ...............

I like that painting! My mom (Nancy Olson) is an artist.. and painted (watercolor) this scene of Dickens' "The Old Curiosity Shop" several years ago.
painting started...
painting finished...
Here are a couple more.. She has had Christmas cards made from some of them.
Re: How's the weather?
Hi balogh,
You just described a 'usual' November here.
Cold, grey, slush, shorter daylight...
I use my strong full spectrum lights 8hrs each day.
You made me Laugh !
My Mum, (93 next Wed.)
Has always said,
"What the Dickens ? ", for anything unexpected.
Also,
"Cold as the Dickens", when it is cold outside.
I thought 'Dickens', was some sort of an English slang word.
Now I am learning,
Why I got 50% in High School English, because of prefect attendance !...
I like learning here, on Cox Engine Forum !
Shovelled today 3/4in of 'slushy' snow. Before it froze up. (next two days)
Cold and wind wind next two days will 'sublimate' and dry things out...
I saved on spreading salt till later.
Rain on Monday,
Will wash it all away...
Tuesday,
Weather is 7C,
If it is calm,
I get another flight in... (Dec is very hard here)
Take care,
Have Fun,
Dave

Re: How's the weather?
Falling through 18°F here in Southeast Missouri...but thankfully without the 20-25mph frozen winds of last night and this morning.
Our friends with the Dexter Barnstormers ('bout 40 miles away) had scheduled a Chili Fun Fly for tomorrow and Saturday, but postponed it 'till some friendlier temps come around.
So, maybe do some early morning shop time with my new propane heater tomorrow.
Everybody stay safe and warm!

Hi Oldenginerod,
Good Luck ducking out of the heat/humidity...
I can dress warm for -30C /-50C Wind Chill here, but,
I melt, when the Humidex here is over +30C.
I wonder when,
I can get here, an 'Air Conditioned Parka'. (solar powered?)
The Neighbours here, hate it,
When, I run around almost naked here !...
And also,
Model Airplanes prefer cooler/drier weather too...
Take care,
Stay Cool,
Have fun,
Dave
