That is nice to hear nowadays. Usually it is the phone or game system. I have not flown neither, but if you are unsure, whip out a Man-Win Trainer. Simple, easy, I would have to say indestructible, and heck, could be built in an evening. Not a kit, no, but something that he could build and fly. Made from coroplast. Or, there is the Osborne Platter (which I have not flown, but have only heard all good reports. Just a thought, and my .02 on him wanting to build something.

Start with a Man-win with a strong bee on it. Then build the Stuntman23 after he is no longer crashing repeatedly.

The man-win can take being driven into dirt with a rubber ducky prop on it, the stuntman...not so much.

I agree, my boys (now 16 and 18) and I learned on a Man Win. If he crashes and breaks the kit plane on the first launch, he might loss interest.  The Man Win can just be brshed off and thrown in the air again. But, You should start building the next plane now, then he can get the fun of building at the same time as learning to fly.  Way to go!  Now set the hook!n I have a Fire Baby kit one of our local club guys made, and you can have it if you want it for your son to build. It's like this one.

I must he forgot e picture

Duke that would be GREAT , as I really don't have 30.00 to put out on one kit right now and usually just bash some paper plan into a plane and fly it, ,, I am going in town (taking my Dad a few places ) and plan on heisting a couple signs lol! I had plenty of those things a few years ago , and they do make good target practice lol!  PM sent and Thanks Friend , Eric and Justin Very Happy  ( Man-win it is ) Thanks New222 and Phil ! I Love This Forum!

Thanks Roger , I was afraid we had burnt you out from all the laser cut request . There is a big demand for kits cut cheap and you fit the bill as you are a good person and sometimes people can take advantage without even realizing it and that can bee sad if not recognized. Thank You for all you have done for me and getting the Baby Ringmaster Bipe project in the air , also all the incredible work you did with the Scout Kit , that unfortunately I have yet to start but will make something for the winter months to help past the time .Eric Leaves

I'm good. Thanks for the kind words. Work has been busy and much going on. I have not had any time for planes since mid July. Hope to get a couple back running and get out some before it gets too cold.

Like I said. If you need something let me know. I will make the time.

Thanks "New".. I had seen posts here about this model.. but hadn't read much about it's construction details. Even "I" might be able to build one in an evening.. Laughing I'd like to try joining the engine mount plates together using two short pop-rivets.. rather than the machine screws/nuts. The wing spar-rod would need to be installed beforehand.. then the rivets would really clamp it in place. Installed from the top (naturally).. the pop-rivet heads are practically flush with the top plate. Less chance of the bellcrank getting hung-up. Two Cents

Eric, I hope you're able to get your son involved soon. The fact that he's interested is great! It will be a good thing for both of you!

The most of the construction and the longest part was cutting it out. Heck, even I built 2 in an evening, and I am a SLOW builder. Shocked Also, mine flew pretty well in my opinion, and was a definite hoot to fly, and it took many 'hard landings' this past year with no damage other than the engine mount being bent a bit, so I just grabbed the engine and bent it back up into place.

Did you use a certain type of adhesive for any coroplast to coroplast bonds? The only place I can see this being required is if you used the mentioned coroplast lead-out guide strip.

Here are a couple of pictures of the two of them. The only gluing was the leadout guides. They were first 'flashed', then glued using Dollarama 5 Minute epoxy. By 'flashing', in case you were unaware is to simply pass a flame over the area quickly to clean from any oxidents/impurities on the plastic. You can also use chemical, but this is what I prefer, and what I use in the industry to do any of my plastic repair. I use a micro torch waved back and forth a couple of times quickly, but you can use a lighter or heat gun as well. You can kind of see the plastic getting a bit shiny when doing this, but on white it is a tad harder to tell. But a quick pass is all that is required. Plus after gluing down with a thin layer of epoxy, I clamp it for a bit also. If you have any further questions, please ask.

I use hot melt glue to create internal reinforcements for screw holes. I also use hot melt glue as wing tip weight and for holding the spar in place. With dual temp glue the hotter setting will penetrate the plastic while the cooler setting will not. After gluing I drill through the glue.

Downside is that hot melt is heavy, so if you are doing anything other than bashing these with new pilots the results will be less than lighter, less strong methods.

Happy do you think....

Post  getback Thu Oct 29, 2015 1:17 am

Got the engine mount AND 1/8" hard wood strip cut for reinforcement in the wing made over the weekend , and was checking the sign for plane and its only 18" the way the channels run so it will have to be sized down or find another sign and I haven't seen one yet that will fit the description , Do you think that the 5" smaller difference will be OK ? I cannot honestly say, but mine does move well with approximately 35 foot lines and a Babe Bee. Your call, but I do believe that it would be a quick little thing in my opinion. But, heck why not try, they take bad landings very well, so I hear.........

Looks like it is coming along nicely. The mess up on the tail is no big deal. These things are very forgiving in nature while building. Shape is not all that important. Just make sure you have enough of a gap so it can travel up and down well. Also, you and your son will enjoy the Fire Baby 2. Awesome little plane and quick build.
