I've been kinda quiet this past year, for the most part just have been really busy. I picked this up in September and I hope to be in the air soon! I have been restoring it the past few months. Taken it nearly all apart, replaced a few pieces and now it's coming back together. Hope to have it together after Christmas sometime and fly this spring!

Thanks! I will defiantly be doing that.  It will also be my first Solo also. I picked up 3 hours with instruction in a 2-place Quicksilver this fall as well and was signed off to solo.

My wife really doesn't like the idea.... My goal is to fly this for a few years, get a 2-seat and my light sport certificate, then later build a Zenith CH-750.

Not yet...but will! MY dial-up won't let me roam too much, so I do all my surfing when I can get free WiFi.

That's quite a cool toy, Travis. The engine is right pretty too, can you tell us about it? Bandit flies something similar to that, but with a different type of wing. How fast and far can you actually travel in something like that? How much cargo can you comfortably haul. I'd love to have one that I could fly to my club field for a day of model flying.

It's a Quicksilver MXL and the engine is a Rotax 503. The engine is a 49HP, uses about 2 GPH and has a 5 gallon fuel tank. Cruises at 45-50 MPH and stalls around 30-35 MPH. It also falls under the Part 103 rules for ultralights, so no license is needed.

Nice ultralight. Neighbor built a kitfox back in the late 90's but thats not an ultalight.

Going to add a rocket propelled safety parachute to it? They do require maintence when the rocket motors expire but is an added safety if something would happen.

That's a pretty narrow margin from cruise to stall. One good gust or a headwind could get you in trouble quick.

Be safe up there man. I imagine you can dive to pick up speed if needed.

With a Rotax 447:
Stall is ~31 mph
VNE is ~73 mph
Cruise ~54 mph @ 75% power

Mine has a 503.

I put it together, for the most part, before Christmas.  Still waiting on some parts and for the weather to warm up a little.

It's about the same as an Aeronca, my Chief stalled at about 45 and cruised at 72. All airplanes are to operated carefully.

Nice Quicksilver! they fly really nice and You won't be disappointed with a 503. As Rusty mentioned, I have a Trike (Air Creation GTE Twin) which is a two seater, stalls at 28mph cruise at 75% 60-70 depending on trim VNE: 90 mph Power: Rotax 582 DCDI with quiet kit. Flies great! (Bandit)
