My InSinkerator Empty My InSinkerator

Post  ian1954 Sun Jan 31, 2016 12:08 pm

I installed an InSinkerator hot water dispenser about 15 years ago. Why? Because I am lazy and filling up a kettle, boiling more water than I need - takes too long. So I got one of these.

I have used it may times a day - instant boiling water!

However, last weekend it shuffled off this mortal coil and so this weekend I replaced it.

But (there is always a but!) - when I bought the original I knew it was an American design and creation. It is one of the very few products of the USA that I have (If you don't count model engines - none of which are made anymore).

My InSinkerator Dscn6010

Made in Racine WI - Nickname(s): The Belle City of the Lakes, Kringleville, Invention City. Also what I thought was the home of Dremel tools.

I was therefore more than disappointed to see this label on the replacement.

Will this one last 15 years?

I have seen the demise of British industries and brand names are now meaningless for the origin of equipment. Nearly everything now on the market is Chinese.

Anyway, last year I bought a Dremel tool as my original (Made in USA) burnt out after 20 odd years. I had a look at it and my new one was made in Mexico.

I went and checked all my Proxxon tools and was pleased to see that they were all made in either Germany or EU.

So I thought, I know Britain makes bugger all now but what about America and I came across this web site.

https://survivalblog.com/all-american_tool_manufacturers/

Sad times but at least some of the names are survivors.

Ian, I'm feel the same very way. I drive by a Insinkerator manufacturing facility on my way to the flying field. I recall when they made everything in this manufacturing facility. I highly doubt that now. I was in there about 25 years ago for some garbage disposal parts. They took my parts and exchanged them under warranty and handed me a few extra o-rings. I find this especially noticeable with automotive parts and it makes me sick. No brake rotors period are manufactured in the US. Everything comes from China and it's extremely poor fitment and quality. My dad always would say, enjoy it now because it won't be around tomorrow. Ken

Poop, I just lost a page long blog (rant)  on the demise of the American jobs, which would have bored most people.  Suffice to say that we lost our manufacturing capabilities to the "global" sourcing of cheep labor.  US workers at $25/hr lost their jobs to Mexico workers at $2.50/hr who in turn lost their jobs to the Chinese  at  $0.25/hr.  The Chinese now have our old pollution problems, we have clean air, and some clean water but no manufacturing jobs.   Computer Issues

The only thing made in America that is better than anything in the world is scamming political bureaucracy and their minions to 'run the show'!
