Flying wing free flight model

During the month of January, I made a new free flight plane powered by a Pee Wee. It's called Wing Ding and can be found at Hippocket Aeronautics. The wing is made of 3mm coroplast. To obtain the right dehidral, I slipped a bent piece of 3 mm threaded stud into the flutes. The build is otherwise very simple.









The propeller is an ancient white Thimbe Drome 4,5 x 2,5 that has been through the wars already. I mounted it on backwards. The C of G was spot on as indicated on the drawing. During first gliding tests, it glided nicely and straight ahead. I then did the first powered tests in my neighbour's garden. To my surprise, after launching, it climbed almost straight up and did a wingover. I added some 3,5g to the nose and a little weight on the left wing. I decided to move to the field across the road after I hit a tree and the garden wall. It does turn in circles but also does loops. I find that this forward swept wing does not behave in flight as a more conventional plane. 1 time, I had it circle to the right without any modification.





I made a video that is uploading now. Unfortunately, I was on my own and the launch of each flight is not recorded. To shoot the video, I grabbed my camera from work but it has had its best time and the images are not so sharp but it gives an impression of how the plane flies.
