Can some explain how to use these for a tank setup.

If I am not mistaken, look up balloon tank. I believe they are used in the same manner, also fingers off nitrle gloves I hear work too.

I've seen TD Bandit use one on a TD, so you might send him a PM. I don't recall what he plugged it with. It's meant to be used as a pressure bladder rather than a balloon, but for a very small fuel supply it could work like a balloon.
He gave me one, but I capped a tube of caulk with it Lol. It worked great for that.

I think the allure of these is they are lower pressure than a latex bladder so a fine thread needle isn't needed.

IN side the link JPvelo posted above read the General recommendations page on the red caps, set up and use


I use them quite a bit as lower pressure than tubing bladder

They are not as tough as tubing bladder so must be in a holder or compartment that has zero sharp points to burst them when full

Both tubing and red caps deteriorate when not being used.... I fix up a new red cap every fling session after removing the fitting from the used red cap

For tubing on small cox a fine NVA is required
For red caps a standard NVA will work but a fine thread one will give a better needling range

TDBandit and I have been using these on our td's for quite a while now with excellent luck. I wait till they break before replacing them, and find I can get a lot of flights out of one,don't want to be wasteful. 20, 25 flights is achievable. The bladder fittings come from www.texastimers.com . Stretch a piece of silicone fuel tubing with hemostats and put it over the big end of the fitting. Slide the end of the red cap over this and secure with a small zip tie. You will love them Laughing

Bad Bill is correct and re-reading I implied that they deteriorate fast and truth is they do.... depends a lot on how often you get to fly

Bill can fly more often than I do...I assume from his posts here on CEF ....in my case several weeks between flying days and it sucks to get there and POP a bladder ( yes Virginia I carry spares of every thing)

I actually prefer the red caps cuz I got several packs (5) of 24 from Ace hardware (I bough all they had) and they are much easier for me to make up than a tubing bladder.... IN fact the way they are designed you can make a full length one or short it and still have a fair amount of fuel for testing with similar pressure to full length

Bladder tube must be "trained" I don't bother on the red caps

And here's how I "mount" them. I use a small pill bottle with both ends sawed off.

I like the idea, but I have a question regarding it. Actually two. First, how do you recess the bottle in the wing? Second question is does it not weaken the original design and structure of the wing? I don't think it would really matter or pertain to me as my models generally have a short lifespan, but maybe in the future! Shocked
