Yes, I DO finish one once in awhile..

Yes, I DO finish one once in awhile..
Well, OK, it STILL needs a cowling but, otherwise, my long-parked Golden Hawk is ready to go. The Space Bug is loose and ready, and I'd intended to include front yard flying photos, but didn't get the thing together before the wind came up.
Maybe this evening...
The Golden Hawk surges against it's restraints as the mighty Space Bug revs up:
Yes, the Space Bug's a little dirty...maybe I'll clean it up after a few flights...

Man that looks GREAT!!! And the Space Bug sets it off just right , I have been ranting to run/fly one bad for a while and just can't seem to get life out of the way long enough to do it . I like the color s and 1968/ USA/ Flag !!! Looks like you mounted some studs or screws from the other side to place the Engine ?? Gets its intake air from the cockpit ? Good Fun KIM . Eric

Hey Eric Thanks!
The Green/Gold (or yellow) seems to be the colors associated with the Golden Hawk, and they are a great combination. Even though Scientific introduced it a LOT earlier, the first time I saw a Golden Hawk was the one my Uncle built in early '68. I don't remember flying it, but he says Bobby and I both did...and these days...I don't pit my memory against anyone else's!
Before I epoxied it on, I inserted short, hardwood, dowel pegs behind the firewall to take the #2 socket thead sheet metal screws (such fiddling around is one reason these simple kits take me forever to finish). I gouged out a socket for the mighty Space Bug's air intake, and cut a trough for it's air straight down below the engine (kind of a reverse babe bee deal).
And then...lecturing myself on the whimp I'm becoming in my later years, I decided to fly the thing...wind or not!!!
Didn't get fancy this time, but will on the next one.
So, the first Walt Musciano design I've flown in a while that WASN'T a Big Otto !!!
Back to the 60's:
Maybe if I mow the yard, the Golden Hawk will have a more graceful ending to it's flights..

It'd be great if I could just park my van on the field...guess I ought to ask. May be an insurance thing...

Sounds like it might work...pups ain't never a problem! There IS at least one campground close to the field in Maumelle where the last S.M.A.L.L. Fly was...felt a little silly driving there and back when I could have slept fine right in my parking spot!

Thanks Jim...as a side note...your 'Scout' post got me restarted on the Veco Scout that's been staring at me for some 15 years. The silkspan had gone brittle, so it's getting replaced. Maybe I'll follow through and finish it this time!
