35% Nitro all castor 20% / Stock black prop 3x1.25 / 2nd test flight.
Last two passes had the highest rpm readings. Thrust to weight around 1:1.
I edited out the trim flying portion of this section, total run time from start up

Thank you András, glad you have enjoyed the project.
This design can be sized to work very well with all the Cox engines.
You would need about 12mm thick fully symmetrical airfoil and tapper to 7mm for the TD .15
The NANO is 6mm and tappers down to 5mm at the tips.

Wave Scope doppler reads

53mph or 85.7 kmh
1 Hz = 60 rpm / 673 Hz / 40,380 rpm

Thank you Marley for the greenie them things are hard to get!

I converted the best pass of 41,985 to a wav. file.
Notice the Hz in the Wave Scope program:
The pass was so close to the camera it gave very solid lines.

4146 - 4841 = 695 Hz x 60 rpm = 41,700 rpm / 58.8 mph

The good power to weight ratio and down wind pass allowed the engine to rev. higher then in a
cross wind pass no doubt but it does show what the wee lil TD .010 can do with the right design.

Placing the data points spot on can vary slightly / one reading was 61 mph
According to the Pitch Speed Calculator:
Wave Scope: 41,700 / 49.4 mph.
Phone App: 41,985 / 50 mph

The Speed Calc can't adjust for the conditions even prop flex at the tips can add extra pitch speed,
with down wind assistance it is easy to exceed the Prop Calc Speed readings in comparison to what the
Doppler Wave Scope can define. Based on what I was seeing the plane was pushing 60+ easy enough
down wind.

Are you correcting for the doppler effect in any of those data?

From your screen dump you don't seem to use the program correctly, you want to get the difference in frequency from when the plane heads towards you and when it moves away from you. Here is what it should look like;

I placed the green and red lines correctly and used the Km h result / converted it to Mph.
Second use of the program was to find rpm. Here is a comparison.

My rpm App reads 30,114, I have the wav. file for that gif. pic result.
When the software was downloaded as a sample.
1 Hz = 60 rpm

110.96 Km h / 68.95 mph.

The IC engine doesn't show the break lines between the incoming and outgoing
shift like the electric motor example provided by the program.

With some effort you can split the shift if so  58mph
The reading is only off by .8 not worth the fuss.

No, that's not the way to use the program. You should follow the frequency changes of one line. These changes in frequency comes from the doppler effect (plus changes in rpm from a dive of course).

You can read more about it here; http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=553909

Thank you yes the top and bottom is the thin 1/64th cross grain for shear strength and side are 1/32nd.
I used 1/16th  firewall ply and two bits of spruce stock here is a pic the engins back plate screws go into
the spruce stock. Small pill container with cork plug and aluminum tube. 80mah battery good for 4 flights.

I gave you links to everything this was already posted MPI micro switch = )

http://www.ebay.com/itm/RC-Universal-ESC-Control-Switch-PNP-Plug-N-Play-Design-MPI/371580886267?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D36188%26meid%3D8574296b5b8840b2ad31c69058fd2ebc%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D381537521805

Im right handed so my thumb checks the switch is in the right position one last time prior to launch, there is
no throttle control so once you let it go its a heart thumping ride till the fuel runs out lol. Smile

One top tip, for the first flight run the engine rich so the power is backed off about 15 to 20% the slower flying
plane will give you more time to sort out the trim settings and get use to the visual size and flying characteristics.

Thank Eric!!!  At last some Greenie action wooot!

Here is the next generation NANO II for more speed three changes
- inclosed engine bay
- nylon bolted wing with torque rods - no exposed rubber bands / servo / horns / wire / wing dowels
- more narrow low drag, light weight carbon tube tail boom

All leads to scrubbing off drag, sustainable rpm will increase and down wind passes will increase to 44k+
Best pass stock prop hits 61.49mph / the new design should hit a solid 67 mph with a stock prop.

Today I plan to vid /test a new prop on the first generation NANO a 2.6x3 prop / down wind 35k / 110 mph +
I think if keep the blistering air skorchin bird close I can control the madness.

Today I took off the stock prop and put on the 2.6x3

In the hand just prior to launch 24,142 rpm
Best Pass in a cross wind level 35,206 rpm / 100.02 mph per prop calc. will get Wave Scope data in time.
Average Pass 33,500 rpm / 95.17 mph
Many passes at 34,700 + / 98.58 mph
Average pass into the wind 29,500 mph / 84 mph

Flight speeds where silky smooth without the mind boggling screaming at 41k plus.
The plane ate up real estate fast but was quite manageable.

The passes in front of the cam are smoking fast at 30 frames per second I don't get many frames!
It happens soo fast in a blink then the plane is on the far end of my field from one end to the other wham wham!
NAMO WHAMO time fo shizzle.. Cool This prop combo now beats my 86mph Lil Speedy with the TD .020.

Will post vid later tonight going out for dinner with family.

Average Pass 33,500 rpm / 95.17 mph

Note I tossed some grass up to show wind direction I am flying mostly cross wind passes for today's tests.
With the stock prop 4.33 mins at best, now with the lower rpm's 5.29 mins.

Doppler Wave Scope analysis from posted vid 101.64 mph / 163.58 Km h at 2.54mins
Doppler Wave Scope analysis 97.51mph / 157 Km h from the above vid at 2.37mins

I must say this as it is important:
For all you folks out there doing the Cox engine shuffle for the last 30+ yrs you know
this is world record speeds the NANO is achieving with a TD .010. Nothing on any site
nor any known magazine from my past since the 1970's (from my start with the hobby)
have I ever seen reported such speeds nor online results from posted vids to date.
If there is any known data please let me know and post it here.

For now this is a rather historic moment for the TD .010  Small Cox Logo

Bit longer tail boom will allow a reduced set of tail feathers, wing loading is
better than needed so 16in x 2.75 30 to 35 Sq. In.

Prop reduction with the new design should hit 120 mph if all goes well.

I don't know who is in charge of keeping track of historical Cox moments, but you most definitely have created one or two for the record books!! I remember back in the mid 70's when they said the V8 was dead and would be replaced by 4 or 6 cylinder motors that would put out more HP and better MPG. Well, by golly they did it! You've done the same with that .010 .....more RPM, more MPH and MFPM.. ( More Fun Per Minute)

There is a speed record for 1/2A (.049) but nothing in the books for .020 or .010 engines.
Yes pitch load for more speed sure beats just screaming along at 42k and only getting 61mph.
Which on it own merit for the stock prop really good in lieu of most TD .010 planes do 35 mph at best.

I have cut down another stock 3.75x3 this one is 3x3 to increase run time further the 2.6x3
makes good thrust but could do with a bit more if I can keep the rpm's up. So will test this
one next. The back cut is the same as the 2.6x3 prop at 102mph prop. My guess best top end
will drop to 95mph but the upswing is faster pickup speeds out of sharp turns and faster vertical lines.
The tips flatten out quite a bit this shouldn't harm the top end too much.

I have premade hash marks scratch on the prop to field cut on the fly to make another run to beat the
102 mph speed record. Estimate the 2.4x3 will hit 36.8k as I needle tweak for 105 mph per prop calc.
Doppler will read about the same as the power to weight match up is in sync with this design. It is possible
to exceed sync and that's the goal target speed is 110mph cross wind with the first generation NANO.

The NANO will end up with the TD .020 once the new NANO II is up and running.
NANO .020 will get a 3x4 prop at 34.2k / 130 mph thrust to weight will be 1.6:1
The .020 has done 31,419 with the 3.75x3 / 89.3 mph down wind pass with the Lil Speedy goes
vertical out of sight at around 50mph.

The small NANO at 3.14g with the .020 engine vs 5.3oz Lil Speedy power will be breath taking.
The stock TD .020 will fly faster than the current world speed record for the Cox .049 RC currently as
I recall 107mph done back in the 80's with a custom made tuned piped and modified timing.

Ref: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PwkxfJ8_gQE

Prop mode back cut first then with calipers set one in the hub and scratch your trim line.
3.75x3 prop is 1.1g to 1.2g stock after cutting to 3x3 / .8g less than half the weight of a stock cox prop.
