Picked up these items this morning. In total it cost me $30. I think there is enough there to make the buggy run.

Thanks guys, it was an estate sale. I don't haggle on prices in those occasions. To be honest the prices were more than fair. At one point they started giving stuff away. I didn't take any free items though.

I almost have the buggy cleaned up. The engine was a bear to dissassemble! It's cleaned up and sports it's original working W head.

If I make it operational I'll do a video.

I passed on a bunch of bees and product engines. They sold for $5 lol I feel stupid now.

Nice haul!  Garage sales are all over the place now. Spring cleaning, I guess I'll need to start stopping at them to find some deals like this.  I am meeting someone with a Craigslist add for some Cox cars and a helicopter for rather cheap. We'll see what I get. Fishing

Bah Humbug......the seller didn't want to meet Saturday night. I asked him to email his  address to me and I would call the next day. So, I called him this morning at 11:45 and tell him lm on my way for the 1 1/2 hr drive. He says he has another person on the way over to pick them up.  Oh well, at least I didn't waste 3 hrs plus gas. Sad

This one was kind of funny, advertized as a garage sale, but knew it was an after death sale. The mood was positive. Felt bad for the poor wife. Just cements the fact that this stuff is all junk. Enjoy it while you got it, cause it will all go for pennies when you croak. Rolling Eyes

Post  Oldenginerod Sat Apr 16, 2016 11:28 pm

I've just been to a swap meet to try to unload some of my mum's things. I wish I had a few more customers like Ron because even though it was an estate sale, everyone still wanted to beat me down on price. At least I managed to get rid of a few bulky items. Have a heap of 1930s books but no interest in those at all. I guess most people are looking for auto stuff & not old books. I didn't get a chance to look around. On the rare occasion that a model engine comes up, they pretty much have unrealistic expectations. At this same swap last year I found a Webra Piccolo .049 diesel. Wanted wayyyyy too much since it had a busted rod. ($40). Time before that I found an Enya 35. It felt a little rough and looked really rough on the outside. A quick look in the exhaust port showed file marks on the piston crown. He still wouldn't budge on $35. I don't think I've ever been to a swap meet where I've found more than one or two model engines, plus they're always overpriced. They're just not so prolific out here- you guys have it pretty easy by comparison.

Rod.

Nice score Ron. And nice of you to not haggle in a situation like that. I would have gladly paid $30 for the Tee Dee and Pee Wee alone so I 'd have considered the rest of them free Smile I also have more basic bees that I need but would have bought a gallon of them for $5 a piece Very Happy

[Ron, I am afraid I am going to hijack your thread a little, sorry 'bout that]

My son and I were at "Model Expo" yesterday, that's the biggest and pretty much the only hobby show in Finland. Various model airplane and RC car, boat, Heli, you name it clubs demonstrate their stuff, there's an RC buggy race and a plastic model show and competition. My son builds plastic models and had two models participating the competition. The club arranging the model competition had just "inherited" the unbuilt models of a deceased member. Made me feel kinda sad, maybe over 500 models unbuilt, going for €1...10 a piece. Some of the more collectible ones were up to 40 euros. There were a lot of interesting and unobtainable models, but I just tried to keep my hands in my pockets and not grab them. I did get a 1/72 scale Saab 105 with photo-etch parts and a Me163 Komet. 5€ and I didn't even haggle.

Sorry for the ramblings, but for some reason I just couldn't stop thinking about that collection and what it probably had meant for the late fellow modeler. And what a PITA his collection probably was to his wife and then widow if he had any. And I'd rather not think what happened to all his built models Sad

I could not agree more with what Ron said: "Enjoy while you got it, because it'll all go for pennies after you croak".

Oh yeah, my boy got silver in the class for his T-55 in Finnish Defence Forces colours and was also awarded "best Junior in class" for both his models. He builds waaay better models than I ever did, all I did was introducing him to the hobby and showed him the basics (and some of my better old models), he has picked up the rest by himself. So the tradition continues Smile

Yeah, chisel those last two sentences on a rock. This stuff is special only because we're still around to think it is. Same thing with time, it's going away and you'd better be enjoying your life.

Holy shamoley... (pre-coffee exclamatory word I made up)
Good catch.Go to your local Interstate Batteries and get an NiMH battery for that igniter. I replaced my wimpy 1300mah NiCd with a 4000mah(4ah) Nimh and it burns like a star for well over an hour of duty. And you can top them off all you want without damage too.

I'm on the way to fly so couldn't read the replies, so I'll oogle over your engines later. Bye for now,
Rusty

Well if this doesn't make for some sobering Sunday morning reading.. I don't know what does.. silent

This man (God rest his soul) obviously had an interest in small engines/models.. the same as all of us. His treasures were saved by you Ron.. I'm sure that at some point in his life.. he wondered where these things would end up on his passing. If it were me.. I'd hope that they were passed-on to another modeler who could enjoy them, rather than being thrown-out. If he was like me.. he had no one else locally who shared his interest.. or else these items surely would have been set aside for someone.
