I got this at our local R/C auction. I don't know what the heck it is but it looked cool.
Any one know what it is?
Also where do you think the cg is?  I usually use 25% Mac to start.
I really want to get this in the air, but want to do it right.
Also what length lines should I use. The longer the better.

Wow, Nice looker. I love finding that kind of stuff. Smacks of an F4U Corsair among other things. C/L too an added plus.

Thanks. The orange paint caught my eye. Before I knew it, my wallet was lighter and I was walking away with it.
Now to get it in the air.....

All American Jr.

Go through it before you fly it. The TD will be lighter than the engine it was designed around.

All American Jr Thanks for the info. Is that a Debolt design?
I used to buy my cox pt-19 and warhawk parts (a lot of them) from Hal Debolt at his hobby shop when I was a kid!
I cleaned the engine and tank, haven't run it yet. What else should i do?
I haven't balanced it yet. Looking for the balance piont.

maybe..

Balance is probably near or in front of the forward LO (see link).  35 to 45 ft lines with a healthy TD .049 on it.  The linked plans indicate more engine than the .049.  However the OK cub was considered more mild than the Cox TD...  Find some salt to take that one with.  It might be fine and a good performer if it is light enough.  Plans indicate 6 1/2 oz for weight.  That would be a good weight for a TD to pull around.  140 sq inch, so a good size too.

Yes, bench run the engine first.

Thanks for the plans. I looked but couldnt find them.
I'll take you advice. Would an 09 be a better engine?
As it sits its 9oz
probably more after balancing.
Would 35 ft lines be too long?

A friend of mine built one a few years ago and flew it very well with a Cox 09. It would do everything and was very fast, it was a great flyer!

35' lines would be a good starting point. You may even wish to go longer, but that would be the best length to start with. A TD .049 will pull that 9oz plane with ease.

With the CG as anotated in the plans it my be tail heavy due to the lighter engine. Hopefully it balances fine.

If the CG is as noted in the plans there probably is a ball of lead under the engine(or somewhere in the nose). It should not be tail heavy. Now with that light of an engine compared to what the plans indicated there may be more lead than one might expect. The lead also may be located in a less-than-ideal spot.

Maybe the nose was extended to accommodate the lighter engine, but not likely.

With the lighter engine double check to make sure it is not tail heavy. The CG with relation to the wing should be correct.
