Sean Has a much heavier RM (old and fuel soaked) he flys over 500 points on witout even trying

I had made up sets of .018s at 60' but he preferred his 67" foot 12s
Lap times were 5.54 and about right for me right now
My plane AUW is 27.9oz sans fuel

Adjustable lead outs...not fussed with...yet

There is a warp we tried to remove...Waiting on mono-kote relax right now

We stopped before more trimming because no stuff at the field to remove the warp but did add a quick CAed on trim tab on to make her fly better

I liked the tension and once we get her sorted Sean will coach me back to loops and lazy 8s

Fun for me and not too interested in re-learning the full pattern

Bottom line is the engine ran great, Sean did NOT think is sucked

I got to fly some and gain confidence

We will do more trimming and fussing

I had a absolute ball and hours later still have a BSEG

Outstanding! I don't know anything about control line but I do know the BSEG. Glad it all worked out and that is was fun. I hope you get to keep making it out and having fun.

Still waiting for flying weather up here in the great white north! But I did get the old PT-19 fired up today for the first time in 50 yrs.! Even with a glow head that has all the fins corroded off of it from sitting in a box in a damp basement for decades! Ahh...that sound and smell brought back memories! Still have to get lines made and figure out a spot to fly....if it ever quits snowing or blowing! Great that you got into it again! Good luck!

Way to go Fred, you pass the dizzy test, mostly. As you know I landed flat on my face. I haven't gotten back up on that horse yet but soon. More flights and more fun I feel are in your future.

Wow Fred, I had no idea, I thought you were flying regularly. Weren't you flying some Combat? Anyway, I'm glad you got some good stick time, good for you!

Now for my 2 cents. I use .015" lines on any plane from a modern .25(or vintage .35) and up. Unless you have a real monster on the end of the lines, I'd never use .018s, that's pretty heavy stuff. I used those for the Magnum, but I've never flown any as long as 67'. Mine are 61' and 62' for my Cardinal and Oriental, both in the low 50 oz range. I used 64' on the Magnum. So just cherry pick from all of our advice and do what feels right. I do firmly agree with the 10-5 prop for the Fox 35. It needs the load, and when you get it on song, you'll love it. If you have an OS Max-S .35, it'll be very similar, one difference is that it needs a 10-6, and runs much like a Fox. Master Airscrew works well for that one too.

April 3rd 2016 until May 22 2016 is but one of five screwy weather years in the 21 we have owned this place in Central Texas

Sean McEntee and I flew 4 planes for 12 flights yesterday Sunday 22 April 2016

for all flights we used his .015 x 67 foot lines and handle

Humidity all over the map here for last 8 weeks and no way to properly remove the ARF Ring Master warp so I added a aluminum trim tab to outer wing. The non muffled old Fox with APC 10x4, 15%n 25% c started and ran good.... Sean was happy with it once we adjusted the trim tab to get it level upright and inverted

Sean flew his beat up oil soaked RM and only issue was soccer field kids who made both of us nervous .... in flight, this plane started sounding weird and was due to loose motor mount

Sean also flew his other plane ( he told me about the scratch build but I forget what model it is) OS 25 on the nose and watching him go through the stunt pattern was fun.... BUT weight box lid fell off and we walked the circle several times finding it

Moment of truth needed--- so I fuel up the RST/RM variant for OS LA 25 muffled maiden flight.... easy start, smooth take off.. flew fine as built with no bad habits or tweaks needed.

Second flight set RPM a bit faster and the 10x4 prop and 30oz plane flew a very respectable pattern Sean only noting the outsides were a bit unstable compared to insides . We think it is mostly the low hung exposed controls...Lap times a bit brisk at 4.8 sec

Sean is heading off to Middle east next few weeks to do his thing for God and Country and I will miss his help and friendship immensely...most likely his return will see him posted elsewhere in the USA

The ARF RM will stay home as my stooge, ah err, wife and I play airplane with the Rugged Stunt Trainer / Ring master on week day mornings with NO soccer field kids (hopefully)

If you want a fast build and right off the plan good flying plane, I highly recommend the Phil Cartier Core-House Rugged Stunt Trainer (RST) with OS LA 25 combo and RSM short Duralum landing gear with 1 3/4 to 2 1/4 wheels

The OS LA 25 likes 10% N 22% oil (50/50) and a 9x4 or 10x4 prop at 9800~10100 launch RPM

OH sorry ...we were much too engrossed with flying and managing the little people to take any video or photos

BUT we did both went home with BSEG.....

I am pleased it all went well,

67' lines and 4.8 sec lap time means the plane was approaching 60 mph. Is that a comfortable speed?

I worked out that the ACE+ trainer and the Wizard were doing about 30 mph. That seemed fast for me but on 67' lines (if possible) that would be lap times of over 10secs.

I see you had problems managing the younger population. I think it is nice when they show an interest but very inconvenient when you want to fly and distracting keeping an eye on them so they stay out of harms way. That's why I have taken to flying at 5am - rugrats need there sleep more than me!

Keep it up and pick a good time to fly.

Sean an I love children and are both super conscientious of their safety...at one point what we were doing was such a draw that we just stopped ( I herded them away as he flew out the fuel) and as they timidly approached we invited them over, explained how we built the models, how they worked and them asked them to please stay far away because we needed to work on and fly the planes. We started an engine letting them see the fast spinning propeller.... amazingly they seemed to get it, and for the rest of our session they went back to the play ground and watched...seemed to me to be unsupervised 5 to 9 year old kids who's adult just dropped off and dashed (probably after church shopping)

I fly at a county created "sports complex" and so far no adult has given me any problem.... 2 base ball diamonds, one full sized soccer field with end and side to side goals, jungle gym playground, and a area for on site concessions near a nice rest room facility....very good use of our tax dollars and used a lot for all sorts of events

Before I had the nerve to use the 2 mile out of town facility, I searched far and wide all city and county ordinances that my models might violate, finding none. I went to the parks department and found the folks who make the rules, explained what I wanted to do, and when I wanted to do it; stressing I would not be a distraction to any organized events and if unsupervised children were in the area I would cease flying until it was safe or plan a different day

Small community, some remember model airplanes from their own youth, commented that no one does that any more, were receptive to my mention that children exposed to this may pester parent to let them build a model...all seemed to know that something other than video games and TV is a good idea...of course not a tough audience as they are in the business of football, base ball, and soccer leaque play for the YOUTH of the community

Most Sundays when I am out there I am usually alone until after 11 AM as this is a very church oriented community...we were surprised at 9 AM to see both base ball fields occupied with practice.... but Sean's last chance to fly before deploying to Kuwait so we set up ayway

worked out OK but still a tad stressful..... but managed to have fun playing with our toys airplanes and being young again for a few hours

Actually I have written a few things in the past 21 years of living here for the local paper.....They desire ANY story of interest to fill space.

Mostly VFW, veterans related things around veterans day (a big deal in this heavy military community)

I have though a few times of writing how I got back to the modeling of my youth, the impairments (no LHS within 75 miles), loss of flying space, but focusing on the nostalgia of the 60~70s when a LOT of kids played with toy model cars, boats, and airplanes

Maybe ask the news paper photographer to come and shoot some photos of me flying...he is ALWAYS looking for a reason to stay employed....grin

Of course I am super self conscious of my lack of ability so this will wait until I can start and fly better

For those who don't follow other forums and know who Dan and Sean McEntee are.

Dan flys model airplanes and his 30ish year old son has the bug but super busy being a REAL DRONE pilot, husband, father, and is pretty laid back considering all the demands in his life.

I am super proud to have met and known this young example of what can be good considering the state of our society

Knowing he was not able to take a glow fuel plane to his current posting to Kuwait he is pre building a electric powered Ring Master just so he can participate in the RM Fly-A-Thon this year

Of all his middle eastern deployments...yes plural, this should be one of the safer ones...but still a area where any bad thing can happen

bet many of you don't know there is a bounty on different military skill sets...His is one.... situational awareness and watching his six as well as those of his battle buddies is a way of life...stressful way of life

I predict in future years we will read of Sean at the Nats, and world stunt championships.

Glad you all got some fly time in safely , Yes kids can be a pain but weren't we also Its all about wanting to learn and be involved . Sounds like your buddy has a lot on his tray and a big THANK YOU for the service of our country. getback

Sean is not much for following forums.... too little time... when home he does NOT hide behind a computer, but relieves his wife of the rearing of the lil ones

That said, I keep him updated-- and I do pass on the notes from us of "thanks for service" and "keep your head down", "watch your six" ....just so he knows we care and appreciate what he does

No matter how well or poorly children are taught and reared they all have a common curiosity for EVERYTHING.... it may take exposing 100 to a thing to get 10 curious enough to "get into it"....but that is OUR burden

In my community I have tried to think of many ways to interact with parents, school system, parks dept, to expose their lil minds...alas a model airplane guy of 1 out of 16,700 in the county has a tall hill to climb

I wish I had been much more successful in life...(wife and I are relatively well off but still) I would like to have the ability to fund several engineering scholarships... to win you need to build and fly a model airplane in competition

Annually I would like to have the capitol to sponsor a flying competition event with CASH prizes.... Cash talks loud ...

I often wonder how many that post on the various airplane forums may have the resources to do something Like I am thinking

I am in the school of "build it and they will come"

Seattle Bladder Grabber is on 38th year....dwindling participation but in the "day" Bob Carver used to sponsor the event with $10,000+ in prizes and the event was a bear to put on with all the contestants from all over the world


It would not take but a few (wealthy patrons) with the resources to sponsor, let others do the hard work, and this hobby could again grow


I am a put up or shut up guy....wish I had the bucks to put up
