Re: Finally got my Ollies together
Ian can show off all he wants..I really enjoy seeing everybody cool engine and airplane collections
I recently did a sort, catalog, and write up notes day. I was somewhat dismayed that in just a few years I have accumulated 73 engines
I did not buy any one with a "collect", display, or preserve thought.
Well that is not entirely true...I got one of each of the numbered Cox engines Bernie produced, all #55 just to display. They do double duty each year as ornaments on the Xmas tree
Most of the time I try to buy at least two of any engine as most are long out of production.
In most cases I was looking for either period correct engine for a particular model or the opposite... Like what is a great substitute for something like a Fox .35 on a Ring Master?
many will find their way on the nose of a growing fleet of models

Interesting definition (apart from the American mispelling) but not strictly true.
"Horder
A member of The Horde who accumulates as many items as possible and never shares them, sells them, or uses them. They will cling selfishly to these items until they are no longer useful"
The only match above is "never sells them" - I have yet to sell an engine"
However,
"Compulsive hoarding, also known as hoarding disorder, is a pattern of behavior that is characterized by excessive acquisition and an inability or unwillingness to discard large quantities of objects that cover the living areas of the home and cause significant distress or impairment."
probably a more apt description !
"Showing off" - not sure, I like to show my engines and, in this case, it is rare for me to have them in one place at the same time. It is probably even less likely that you will see twenty two genuine Oliver Tigers in one spot. It would be a shame not to share it.
Three of these are "earmarked" to be installed in models - one of them will be a Dominator and another a Blue Pants. I last made these in the 60's.
Now if I were to "show off" - I would present some before and after pictures of a full engine restore to demonstrate my skills going beyond a simple clean. But I am not like that.
By the way - those cylinders are not chrome but aluminium.

There is nothing like an English lesson from a true Englishman. We colonials can use comeuppance every now and then.
Nice collection Ian. I must say that those engines are new to me. Looks like quality is built in to every one.
I'm not one to put a collector or hoarder down, I willingly plea guilty to both terms. Years ago I decimated my Cox collection by selling them mostly on ebay. Lesson learned, I have not parted with one since.
I keep a log of my engines now, when I bought it, who I bought it from, what I paid, and any distinguishing features. I’m not sure why I do, it’s just nice to have that information at hand. I do like keeping my engines out where I can see them. Enclosed displays keep the dust off and memories intact.

I think some of those Olivers are actually Olivias and they have multiplied. Be aware, they may take over the entire house

Regardless of why you have them I am glad that you share them with us. You have some absolutely beautiful engines that I would normally never get a chance to see.
